Ukraine is at the very bottom of the medals race, with one bronze medal to show for all their competitions so far. Their soccer team lost in the group stage. I was worried for a moment when the Ukrainian men's gymnasts were doing well in the all-around competition, but China and Japan did their job and kept them short of the podium. On that note Japan is having a great Olympics, winning gold left and right. Even lowly Moldova has more medals than Ukraine, with two bronzes. (The country Russia will have to conquer next after Ukraine to liberate Transnistria).
Israel has zero medals so far, underperforming Ukraine. Their soccer team was also eliminated in the group stage. Perhaps God is distributing medals in exact inverse proportion to the number of civilians your country intentionally kills.
America is at the top of the medal count as expected, but with an embarrassingly low total of gold medals. France is doing amazing in the medal count and the gold medal count, which is appropriate and gratifying given they're the host nation and paid to put on this whole show.
China currently leads with the most gold medals, but it's neck-and-neck with France and Japan. If you add Hong Kong's two gold medals to China's total they're dominating though. And I'm not sure why Hong Kong isn't just part of China at this point. It was returned to China in 1997. It's almost been thirty years since then. How long are they going to pretend they're not part of China?
I've watched some amazing athletes do some amazing things. I've watched virtually everything. Soccer, Skateboarding, Beach Volleyball, Cycling, Triathlon, Tennis, Table Tennis, Rowing, Swimming, Diving, Gymnastics, Equestrian, Fencing, Shooting, Archery. . .It's been super fun and it will continue to be super fun until the end. I'm happy USA reclaimed the coveted team women's gymnastics gold. Of course they managed that while Russia, their main competitor, wasn't allowed to compete. But honestly they hit all their routines so well they would have won regardless.
But I'm less interested in the sports themselves and more interested in the political ramifications of the results. There are only two objective tests of a nation -- the Olympics and war. Everything else the government can fudge the numbers. Every nation says they're the best but in these two circumstances it's put up or shut up. Can our athletes actually beat their athletes? Can our army beat their army? There are actual visible, provable results when these two events occur. The USA has lost every war it has fought for the last 70 years, but the whole time they claimed 'we weren't actually trying.' Well our athletes are actually trying, so what is the result when we're actually trying? Pretty darn good. Like, top of the medals tables every Olympics. So maybe we really weren't trying all those wars. Also, maybe the USA really is a superpower full of competent and driven people. There's physical proof of that. If I had to choose between living in a proven superpower or a medal-less hellhole, obviously I enjoy belonging to the USA.
Russia doesn't need the Olympics because they're defeating the entire NATO-aligned world singlehandedly. That's as bear-riding badass as you can get. That's mic-drop level supremacy. But China hasn't been in a war for a long time, so the Olympics are a great test of their mettle. It turns out China is the real deal, from one perspective they're winning the Olympics. They too are a superpower full of competent and driven people. It would be unwise to cross them, because their military will probably be as strong as their athletes.
Meanwhile you can glean from Ukraine's ability in the Olympics what their chances on the battlefield will be. I always thought Ukraine would lose the war and here's evidence backing up that supposition. Like I said, they're losers at everything they try. Because they're a country of incompetent people without any work ethic. The proof is right there in the pudding.
I've constantly pointed out Japan is the best country on Earth, and the Olympics is backing up that statement too. There's no need for Japan to go to war. Not only are their tv shows and video games and books and music the most entertaining, but their athletes are at the top of the gold medal race too. People can claim art is subjective, but gold is very objective and Japan has a lot of it -- in some of the most prestigious events too, like men's team gymnastics and men's all around gymnastics.
It's nice to see reality back up every single claim I've made about every single country. It's like I really do understand the world and people should listen to me when I talk about it.
