Great news, the black cat Fran and her reincarnated into a sword partner are getting an anime. Fran is one of the best girls in fiction, combining beauty, ferocity, and a simplicity of focus. Whenever she goes overboard her sword is there to rein her in so together they're perfect.
Once this is actually animated it's an auto-include into my top anime rankings. Fran is already in '100 Waifus.' This series joins The Eminence in Shadow and Shikkaku Mon as 'series that will be ranked once they begin.' The talented trio as it were.
The only problem is a 1-cour season of Ken Tensei won't actually cover much so it will be a lackluster series at best. You really need more than 12 episodes to tell a good story. So here's hoping it will be a big hit and get lots of sequels down the road. Unlike Death March which was cancelled before any of its best arcs were shown. . .
Love requires at least one woman to be real. I don't recognize men's love as anything to get excited about. A man will love virtually any woman who is pretty and nice to him. The feeling is genuine but extremely shallow. Two boys in love is an oxymoron. All it would take is two boys being sexually attracted to each other plus complimenting each other on their cooking skills or whatever and boom, 'let's have sex and get this relationship started!' That's all it would take, but it's also all it would ever be.
Two girls in love is a love story, because both girls would have exacting standards of the other and would be difficult to win over. This means the deep dynamic of actually getting to know the girl and being willing to sacrifice for your partner would still exist. When a boy gets a lover there are only merits -- he gets to have sex and he gets to impregnate a girl who will then take care of the child until at least age 5 basically on her own. But for a girl there are only demerits. She has to have sex with a guy way more than she wants and it's usually not orgasm inducing. Then as a reward she gets sick for nine months, and then at the end of that nine months of throwing up and whatever she gets one of the most painful experiences in life, childbirth, which can even be fatal. Then after that she's stuck for at least five years tending to an extremely unreasonable, loud, needy and sleep-depriving thing. To make matters worse this is only the first child. For each additional child multiply the pain.
So for a girl to say she loves someone is an enormous commitment and an enormous sacrifice. She's basically giving her entire life's energy to pleasing you. It's a complete surrender. Even if a boy dies to protect a girl it isn't as large a sacrifice, because death is quick but unending servitude is unending. The nobility of a girl's love cannot be matched.
So for two reasons love is only love once it involves girls. The first is girls have exacting standards and won't love just anyone who comes by. For each additional standard they apply the more magnificent the love becomes that passed all those tests. And secondarily girls commit more of themselves to love than boys so it's more meaningful when they love someone. Something has actually transpired that will totally change their lives.
I don't deny that men care deeply about their sweethearts, but it's on the same level as men loving good-tasting food or drink. Or loving a comfortable bed and pillow you can sleep well on. It's a primordial joy experienced directly through the senses and instincts. A woman's love is accompanied mostly by pain in the material sphere and is solely enjoyed on the spiritual plane of knowing they are doing something good for an important cause they're willing to sacrifice themselves for. It's obvious one is more estimable than the other.
Marriage is admirable because it involves the admirable spiritual love of a woman. Gay marriage tries to expropriate and redistribute the respect due only women and apply it to a merger of two men who both like peanut butter sandwiches so figure they may as well marry. That's all that goes into a gay marriage and that's all it's ever worth. This is why gay marriage is an oxymoron and an abomination. It demeans the concept of marriage which requires love which requires women.
This is also why any anime about gays falling in love isn't worth watching because a) it wouldn't be realistic if it acted like a regular romance involving women, b) if it is realistic it's boring, stupid, and centered solely around sex.
This is also why stories about girls trying to get guys to fall for them are all lame. The truth is girls can easily get any guy to fall for them -- even secretaries or school teachers can easily land billionaires or Presidents by smiling at them. So it's a boring non-event to detail how a girl snagged a guy. Of course she snagged a guy. She'd need to be disfigured and hunchbacked not to.
Every love story has to be about winning over a girl. A girl winning over a girl works, though less well, because then there's the looming issue of whose genes will the children belong to and who is effectively being left out in the cold as a third wheel to the closed circle of genetically related mother and children. A guy winning over a girl also works. Maybe he solves some issue she was having and she's grateful to him, or maybe she admires him and wants children who inherit his resolve. But I find actually the best love stories are a guy winning over multiple girls. This would imply that it isn't that one girl in particular needed the guy for a particular reason, (like, say, she was being chased by a rapist and he intervened, or she was penniless and homeless and he took her in), but the innate quality and virtue of the guy who treats everyone equally well that inspired love in the hearts of all the women around him. This would imply the guy is worthy of their love, as opposed to just lucking out.
This is why the best romance stories are polygamous. Whether it's outright polygamy like Kanojo mo Kanojo or 100 Kanojo or Unlimited Fafnir, or the implicit polygamy of a guy hanging out with lots of girls who love him but only dating one like in Sword Art Online or Da Capo or Clannad or Little Busters!. The love from polygamous relationships shines so much brighter than the standard fare of boy-saves-girl-on-the-subway-and-then-they-get-to-talking.
I genuinely think the most loving and natural relationship mankind can engage in is one high quality boy sharing his love equally between many loving girls who all saw the same greatness in him and were attracted to it and consumed by it like moths to a flame.
It gives the man some leverage he'd otherwise lack in the relationship. In a monogamous pairing the girl holds all the cards since she's the treasury and he's just the beneficiary. But in a polygamous marriage if a girl is being unreasonable the guy can always cut her off and get with another loving girl who treats him right. This means both sides have to listen to the other and come to an amicable compromise. Girls who strive to please their men are much more my ideal love then girls who know their man is trapped no matter how ill-behaved they become.
