Choujin Koukousei-tachi manga volumes 7 & 8 read:

Wow, the manga is a bit more explicit than the anime.  ^^.  Well, that aside, they were solid works, as expected from a great series.  A little expensive for how short each volume is, but still well worth it.  Especially since you get to see Ringo's body.  Volume 9 of Choujin is coming out in November, so pretty soon.  I'm looking forward to it.

As usual Masato comes up with a clever scheme to make money, and some genuinely intelligent philosophical discussions occur about equality and the basic income.  Now we're in the middle of a debate about whether war should be fought for a nation's benefit or a nation's ideology.  This is all strangely relevant to the modern world despite being set in an isekai.

Speaking of debates, Trump embarrassed his half of the country by refusing to abide by proper decorum, honor the debate rules, and restrict himself to speaking when it was his turn to speak.  I've never seen so many interruptions.  Trump wanted all 90 minutes to himself and to get the first, middle, and last word on everything.  Poor Biden never got to say anything.  Trump acted worse than a 5 year old in his complete selfish unruliness.  And this is who we have to vote for in November?  Regrettably, yes.  The alternative is unthinkable.  Open borders, open prisons, blacks killing whites with impunity, whites losing the right to self defense, the green new deal shutting all our power off like what happened to California, the Supreme Court packed, the Senate packed, and democracy functionally ending.  What choice do we have?  It's Trump or death.

Until Democrats put up a reasonable candidate like Andrew Yang whose platform isn't to kill us all, what can we do?  Whether it's Trump or Atilla the Hun we have to vote Republican.  We have to deter this insane radicalism until the Left learns its lesson.

Trump is pretty much the worst spokesmen for Republicans imaginable, but when it comes to action he generally does the right thing.  He booms the economy, keeps the peace, has lowered immigration by half, and appoints judges who seek justice, not vengeance upon white males for various made-up sins.  I wish we didn't have to rely on Trump to enunciate our position but right now there's no choice.  He's the incumbent, so it's still his turn.  In 2024 we can put in someone with similar views but an infinitely more gentlemanly demeanor and sanity can be restored to politics.

If I were Biden I wouldn't put up with any more of these sham debates and call off the remainder.  Heck, if I were Biden I would have walked off the stage in disgust in the middle of this debate.  Let Trump just talk to himself for the rest of the session.  I doubt anyone would agree to debate him after this.

I've finished re-reading Wheel of Time, and my critiques of Memory of Light remain true, but I almost think they're irrelevant.  It's more about the souls of our cast of characters and their journeys than the technical clash of power levels.  So the details were unbelievable -- who cares?  What's cool is that so many people got to be heroes, just like Egwene told Rand.  By everyone finally uniting around doing the right thing and winning the Last Battle (an elusive goal across the rest of the series), mankind finally triumphed.  Isn't that story heartwarming in and of itself?  I was also impressed this time by how tenacious, sinister and effective the Forsaken were to the very end.  Two even survived the Last Battle!  Six made it well past page 700 of the final volume -- that's almost half of the starting total!  I tip my hat to them, some of the best villains in literature.

Next up, Hataraku Maou-sama! volume 17.  I'm already 30% of the way through this volume.  Hopefully it will somehow tide me over until the fall anime season begins.

The quarterback play in this season of the NFL is spectacular.  So many stars -- Cam Newton, Lamar Jackson, Drew Brees, Tom Brady, Philip Rivers, Russel Wilson, Patrick Mahomes, Dak Prescott, Deshaun Watson, Ryan Tannehill, Aaron Rodgers, Ben Rothlisberger. . .  a lot of these guys are going to retire soon, so this may be the greatest collection of talent the world has ever seen.  Plus a lot of rookie Heisman trophy winners like Kyler Murray, Baker Mayfield, Joe Burrow, who might take off moving forward.  The sky's the limit for this crop.  Add to this that all the new stadiums are built and all the teams have finished moving about, and there's an extra two playoff games -- what a season!

Now if only crowds could come back to watch and Washington gave itself a nickname the NFL would be perfect.  Maybe next year.
