Dark Phoenix has everything I want in an X-man movie -- people using their mutant powers intelligently and frequently, lots of different characters all getting their moment to shine, Xavier and Magneto working together to solve problems, and mutants overcoming prejudice by saving the world from alien menaces.
Together with a great cast of actors, a great soundtrack, great visual effects, and a nice long length to chew on, what more could you ask for? Aside from the soulful ballad of Logan, this is the best X-men movie hands down. It makes all the previous installments look campy and primitive in comparison. Magneto wielding an entire armory of guns at once looks so amazing -- why hadn't he done this before? Because the writers lacked imagination and the budget to pull it off. Only with Dark Phoenix do we see how cool Magneto could have been from the very beginning.
Also, like Logan, it was okay to kill bad guys in this movie. Phoenix went around disintegrating enemies into dust left and right. That's more like it! In real fights, people die! Go figure!
I don't know what people were whining about, calling this such a bad movie, all the rotten reviews. Have these people seen any of the previous X-men films? Compared to the X-average, this was light years ahead of what I expected. And yet now they choose to start whining?
This was way better than that other girl power movie, Captain Marvel. The Phoenix Saga is the high point of the entire X-men franchise -- of course a movie about it would be great.
To make room for the new great X-men film in my hall of fame, I kicked out another James Bond film. There are plenty of bad James Bond movies so nothing of value was lost.
Meanwhile, I came across another great Aqours song -- Jump up High, and promptly added it to my music hall of fame. The new total is 5,459. It's great that they're still releasing music even after the anime has ended.
Amagi Brilliant Park volume 7 is out commercially, but still not in piratable form. Volume 8's release is planned for November, after which we'll be all caught up, in English, with the author over in Japan. The translation world is really stepping up their game.
