Mitsuri > Ako:

I'm almost done rereading and re-editing '100 Waifus' for the 39th time.  It should be wrapped up tomorrow or the day after.  It's been a tough slog, not only because this is the 39th time(!), but because I keep having to stop and edit so much.  It's crazy because I barely found anything to edit on the 38th try, but this time it's every chapter something needs fixing.

Multiple sentences have had to be added, cut, or modified due to arranging better child-mother pairings by moving the names around.  Konoha, for instance, is now the daughter of Aoba, because they both like making games.  Tama, Pochi, Holo and Myuri now have beastkin mothers because they're beastkin.  The space princess Run is now the daughter of the space princess Lafiel.

I rephrased a sentence with 'just when' to 'right when', since they have the same meaning and this way I use fewer detestable 'justs.'

I rephrased the rather odd term 'human life' to 'quality of life,' which is the idea I was trying to get across with this sentence:  'Or the fact that women were granted more graduate degrees than men and affirmative action the entire way up the corporate ladder but still earned less than men and contributed fewer serious improvements to quality of life in the form of scientific, artistic or philosophical advances.'

A sentence talking about Leia was rephrased, to: 'Even if we weren't lovers, even though Milla had appeared out of nowhere to steal my heart away, she actually spent more time with me than Milla ever did, which was almost as good.'  (With the edited portion in bold).

I think it's important to point out how empty and pointless Jude's long distance relationship with Milla was, and why both Elize and Leia were better women for him, and this short phrase gets that across pretty succinctly.

I also improved a phrase in the climactic Wendy conversation, to: 'Really I'm a lawn mower, a virgin who couldn't drive, whose highest ambition was to gather a bunch of lolis together under one roof. . ."  I confessed.

It's not like Christopher physically rounded up lolis into a pen, the decision was made prior to that, the actually important act was when he made his wish, so now he refers to the wish instead of blaming himself for something he never actually did.

After that the most important edit is switching out another name -- Mitsuri for Ako.  Mitsuri is the female hashira with pretty pink braided hair, a unique sword-whip, the voice of Kana Hanazawa, and a refreshing personality that's energetic, outgoing and adorable.  She really is the love hashira, she thinks so well and cares so much about other people.  In season 3 there are two episodes dedicated to her, the first when she gets out of an onsen and gives Tanjiro a pep talk, with the immortal words "I'm cheering for you and Nezuko."  That compassion brought tears to my eyes.  The second episode is when she's engaging in ridiculously graceful fighting while also describing her past in a flashback.  Her desire to be loved and to be herself eventually finds a resolution when she learns people love her when she defeats demons for them, and you can tell she's genuinely happy despite earnestly telling Tanjiro that she doubted they would both be alive to meet again after their onsen encounter.  She's willing to risk everything for her current happiness.  And for those who know what happens in the manga, well, let's just say her unflagging spirit is amazing then too.

Ako from Saki Achiga has nothing to offer in comparison.  Her name isn't unique, unlike Mitsuri's.  Mitsuri is a side character with few scenes, but the same is true of Ako.  Ako is pretty, but so is Mitsuri.  Ako's voice actor isn't nearly as good as Kana Hanazawa. (who is?)  Ako tries hard to win at mahjong for the sake of her friends, but it's not like she's risking death for them, nor does she have a romantic bone in her body -- while Mitsuri is a good role model for women by thinking about men quite a lot.  It's no contest.  Honestly I should have switched the names earlier than now, but that's what designated editing sessions are for, to concentrate on obvious mistakes, find them and fix them.  It also helps that I just rewatched Kimetsu no Yaiba S3 and have all the Mitsuri details fresh in my mind.

It was an amazing season, mostly because of Mitsuri, but really I loved every episode.  If not for Sousou no Frieren's explosive beginning (and longer runtime) Kimetsu would have been the best series this year.  It's worse than the previous seasons, but that's meaningless when we're talking about Kimetsu, everything is worse than those seasons.

I still nurse the vain hope that at least once I finish editing '100 Waifus' for the 39th time, since I've been so thorough and mindful this time, I'll be able to read it the 40th time without interruption.
