Now that I've rewatched Dragon Ball I needed something else to rewatch, so this comes at a great time. Now I can rewatch one of the best series from last year in its highest HD form. I've rated Love Live! higher than Dragon Ball due in part to the coming seasons of Nijigasaki (this spring) and Superstar's second season, so actually my rewatch target is an upgrade from what I've been trudging through.
If Nijigasaki and Superstar sell well, there's a high probability of a new Love Live series coming out as well. There doesn't seem to be any limit to the number of refreshes of this franchise they're willing to do. With each new series the episode count of Love Live approaches Dragon Ball like levels. The franchise is fast becoming one of the longest anime around.
Meanwhile, the Locodol manga has ended in Japan, but there's no chance of a translation ever appearing here, so America will never know how it ends. I hate tragedies like these. Some very good manga series are no longer being translated, which is very frustrating. Isekai Kenkokuki hasn't had a new chapter since December. MIX hasn't had a new chapter in 8 months. In Japan these series are still releasing, it's only America that's dropped the ball. We're now over two volumes of material behind.
Visual novel translators have also slowed to a crawl. Aiyoku, Majikoi A-5 and Summer Pockets should have all been finished last year. Now it's March and we're still nowhere near release day. I thought this would be a year overflowing with visual novels since so many products were delayed from their expected 2021 release dates. But so far nothing.
In the end only anime is reliably translated -- but most of my favorite series aren't fully animated. It's a catch-22.
Meanwhile, even the New York Times admits that Russia is making steady progress in their invasion of Ukraine, warning that Russia could soon take Dnipro, surround and then annihilate the majority of the Ukrainian army which is all deployed in the eastern front against the Donbass. At that point I assume Zelensky will have to surrender, as he'll have nothing left to fight with. We should all hope the war ends soon because, at current fertilizer, wheat, gasoline and natural gas prices, much of the world is going to freeze or starve to death. Lots of regions on Earth were already unable to feed themselves, and now you want to triple the cost of basic staples? Yeah, these sanctions are going to be great.
