Superstar is even better than I remember it being. Or maybe it's the magic of bluray which makes everything genuinely better. Rewatching it has produced spillover effects in two other halls of fame -- my fictional character hall of fame embedded within '100 Waifus' and my music hall of fame.
As for my music hall of fame, I added 'Tiny Stars,' 'Start! True Dreams,' and 'The future is like the wind' to my 5-star music tier. All songs from the in-anime idol group 'Liella!' I thought these were decent songs my first time through watching this show but now I've totally fallen for them. Maybe because I like the characters that compose Liella! more than last time.
To make room I had to kick three songs down from their previous perches, with the cascade effect eventually canceling the 1-star songs 'A small prayer', 'Nagareboshi', and μ's 'Hello, Hoshi wo Kazoete,' for a Love Live! friendly fire incident. Three anime songs replacing three anime songs. All the details can be found in my updated Music Hall of Fame permapost.
As for my fictional character hall of fame I decided Kanon and Chisato were worthy daughters of Nico as fellow Love Live! practitioners. To slot them in I had to move Sannosuke and Yamucha to different mothers (ideally a mother will always have children from the same franchise so this is a noted improvement for Nico.) Then those mothers had to cancel their daughters entirely so the same number of children are born overall. So the two unfortunate victims were Hazuki from Dal Segno and Cara from Final Fantasy 5. But it's fine, Hazuki is little more than a pretty face and Cara is basically a gameplay-convenient clone of Galuf. Neither really belonged as full-fledged characters in my hall of fame to begin with. Kanon and Chisato are fully developed, fully-animated girls with at least 24 episodes of anime to characterize them.
I like that Kanon and Chisato are nice people but it's that very niceness that makes them suffer as they're torn between two impossible choices that hurt someone no matter what they do. They aren't comic relief with exaggerated traits, they're very real people with real problems, not self-inflicted silliness issues. And being idols it's no surprise that they're extremely beautiful with extremely beautiful voices. It makes me wonder why I didn't include these girls the first time I watched the series. I actually considered doing so but for some inscrutable reason decided against it. I guess the biggest problem is their names weren't unique and they're replacing names that were unique, which is always sad. But name-overlaps are a small sacrifice for such great girls.
Nico has a full slate of Love Live! daughters, Kanon and Chisato are properly respected, and all is right with the world.
