The scanlators of Hanayamata have finally surpassed where the anime ended its adaption. We have three released chapters beyond the anime now, and more sure to come. This means the Hanayamata manga finally has value added and is thus a candidate for my value added manga hall of fame. I entered it in as #73, replacing Q and A, yet another forgettable Mitsuru Adachi series who already has plenty.
With Q and A out of my manga hall of fame, it no longer merits a character or mention in '100 Waifus,' so I also replaced Atsushi as a child name there with James, from James Bond. You would think I would have included someone as famous as James Bond in my fictional character hall of fame long ago, but I was opposed to including him on the basis that he's not a very good role model -- always smoking, drinking and womanizing as he does. But if you take the man in sum, in totum, he really is quite impressive. He shows a lot of quick thinking, courage, good humor, fashion sense, works well with a team and reliably gets the job done. When I think of how often he's saved the world, saved a damsel in distress, or drove a car well, can't I forgive him a few quirks? A vice here and there? He's earned plenty of pizzaz points, can't they be spent on a cigarette or two?
I think the change is a major upgrade, and I'm happy to count James as one of Christopher's sons. I also think Hanayamata is a better manga than Q and A and am happy to have it in my manga honor roll.
Meanwhile, a new anime has been announced for Rurouni Kenshin. Until I know what exactly it intends to animate I'm not removing Kenshin from my anime wishlist though. What I want is the Enishi arc, if they just remake the kyoto arc yet again there's no benefit. I could totally see them doing that. >.<.
They also announced Boku no Hero Academia S6 would start airing in October of 2022, which I already expected would happen, wherefore I had already listed it in my 2022 Anime Chronology synopsis.
They also announced one of my 5-star hall of fame singers, Sayaka Kanda from TRUSTRICK, committed suicide at age 35, despite having it all as far as anyone could wish for in life. That's messed up. If people like that, with riches and fame and adored by fans, aren't satisfied with life, what on Earth are the rest of us sticking around for? What did she still want? What was her problem? We'll never know now because she's dead.
