Coming off the best year ever, it would seem 2020 has a daunting challenge to keep up. But there are some good signs of success already:
The dream college football championship game, LSU vs. Clemson, both undefeated (in Clemson's case undefeated for two years running), is on the 13th.
The NFL playoffs are packed full of talented teams both new and old. The 49ers and Ravens are suddenly strong, while the Seahawks, Patriots, Saints and Packers are strong like always. Could this be the year of the Chiefs, though? So many good teams packing the field.
Tomorrow sees the release of two new light novels -- Outbreak Company and Spice and Wolf. Obviously they'll be impossible to read in 2019 so that'll count towards 2020.
Things I originally hoped to see in 2019 will count towards 2020 -- like the Fate/Kaleid Liner ova, the endings to Btooom!, Kiniro Mosaic and Dimension W.
Also expected for 2020 -- Rewrite +, Summer Pockets, Majikoi A-3 and Aiyoku no Eustia visual novel translations. It felt like no visual novels got translated this year, but all that means is a packed slate for 2020. I wouldn't be surprised if 2020 is the year of the visual novel.
The long awaited Final Fantasy 7 Remake begins in 2020, and the PS5 console which is best suited to play it will also be coming out next year.
A lot more quality music is slated for release in 2020, mostly accompanying long awaited games. Once the year turns I'll check out the music to Muramasa the Demon Blade as the first installment of this new blood.
Then there's the Tokyo 2020 Summer Olympics. Every Olympics is great, summer Olympics are especially great, and summer Olympics hosted in the land of the Rising Sun are the greatest of all.
Unless I can pull another self-authored book out of my hat this year, I doubt 2020 can be a personal high compared to 2019, but there's still plenty of stuff to get excited about in the general sense.
Hopefully in 2020 I can replace the last unsatisfying names in my fictional character hall of fame and put a bookend to my '100 Waifus' novel.
Hopefully in 2020 my top anime rankings can pierce back beyond 9,000 separate episodes/movies again.
Hopefully Winds of Winter comes out in 2020.
Hopefully Trump and the Republican Senate wins re-election in 2020.
The endings to SAO: Alicization and Shingeki no Kyojin are slated for 2020.
There's a lot to look forward to. I suspect enough to fill up every day with fun. 2021 is going to have a lot more trouble with no SAO or Fairy Tail anime to buttress it. That's pretty desolate. But 2021 is still a long way's off so we should just enjoy the good times while they're here.
