Which animation studios are responsible for the beauty of the top 200 anime? If some are more common than others, that tells us a lot about the contribution of the directors/animators/character designers/etc, everything other than the quality of the writing (which is still the main force behind any quality story). It's my belief that a lot of studios these days look practically as good as Kyoto Animation, but is that actually true?

So it turns out Kyoto Animation is only #3. A-1 Pictures (Sword Art Online) and Madhouse (Hanayamata) are #1 and #2, and very deservedly. Many other studios have done their part to make anime great, but like usual it follows a sort of latka curve. The number adds up to over 200 because sometimes multiple studios worked on the same franchise.
