Non-anime entertainment generally sucks, but sometimes it can compete with anime.  When the chance arises to take in something fresh, there's no reason to miss out.

You forgot The Sopranos, Breaking Bad, Mad Men and The Wire. Those shows really set the bar high for TV and hasn't been topped since.
