If gold medalists are the 300 franchises that reached '100 Waifus' and silver medalists are the 60 franchises that reached my wonderful fictional characters hall of fame, who are the bronze medalists?
The answer is franchises that reached my hall of fames without contributing any characters. There are no such examples among my anime, manga or visual novel halls of fame. But starting with my video game franchises bronzes abound:
6. World of Warcraft
7. Dynasty Warriors
13. Mega Man
17. Starcon18. Master of Orion
19. Warlords
20. Heroes of Might and Magic
39. Zelda
27. Master of Magic
28. Mario Kart
36. Mario
38. Warhammer: Shadow of the Horned Rat, Dark Omen39. Zelda
40. The King of Dragons
43. Warcraft/Starcraft
45. Colonization
48. Donkey Kong
In the case of Dynasty Warriors, they're historical people, not fictional characters, so can't be in a fictional character hall of fame. As for all the other video games, they tended to focus on gameplay and not world-building, which led to a dearth of arresting characters. There's nothing wrong with a game focusing on gameplay. They're in my video game hall of fame because the games were really fun. But all it will get you is a bronze medal. There are only 13 bronze medal franchises here, though, because Donkey Kong, Mario Kart, and Mario all share the same world. The same for World of Warcraft and Warcraft.
Also from the great authors hall of fame, we get authors who focused on world-building or flawed individuals instead of inspiring individuals, and as a result made very good books about human nature or worlds instead of heroes:
6. Charles Dickens
7. Fyodor Dostoyevsky
10. James Clavell
15. Kate Elliott
17. Harold Covington
18. David Eddings
19. William Shakespeare
20. Jane Austen
20. Jane Austen
21. Tom Wolfe
22. George Eliot
23. Samuel Richardson
24. Leo Tolstoy
23. Samuel Richardson
24. Leo Tolstoy
25. Ayn Rand
28. H.G. Wells
29. John Steinbeck
30. Ludovico Ariosto
31. Nikolai Gogol
32. Murasaki Shikibu
33. Arthur Conan Doyle
34. Louisa May Alcott
35. George Orwell
36. Larry Niven/Jerry Pournelle/Steven Barnes
37. Jim Kjelgaard
38. Jean Raspail
29. John Steinbeck
30. Ludovico Ariosto
31. Nikolai Gogol
32. Murasaki Shikibu
33. Arthur Conan Doyle
34. Louisa May Alcott
35. George Orwell
36. Larry Niven/Jerry Pournelle/Steven Barnes
37. Jim Kjelgaard
38. Jean Raspail
These are the 24 bronze medal-winning fiction authors.
Then there's the non-fiction authors who of course aren't eligible for any recognition in a fictional character hall of fame. Many of these non-fiction authors are covering the same topics, though, so I can't give full credit to them all. Luo Guanzhong, for instance, is already covered by the Dynasty Warriors video games. All Greco-Roman history authors are basically discussing the same thing, so they get one bronze medal, which reduces the count by 5. A visual representation would look like this:
1. Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn
2. Plutarch, Edward Gibbon, Thucydides, Tacitus, Herodotus, Xenophon,
3. Plato
4.
5. David Hume
6. Charles Murray
7. Thomas Paine
8. Aeschylus/Euripides/Sophocles/Aristophanes
9. Bertrand Russel
10. Friedrich Nietzsche
11. Aristotle
12. Homer
13. Jean-Jacques Rousseau
14. James Boswell/Samuel Johnson
15. Blaise Pascal
16. Lucretius
17.
18.
19. Ann Coulter
20. Jeff Shaara
21. Charles Darwin
22. Karl Marx
23. Craig Winn
24. Thomas Malthus
25. Voltaire
26. Adam Smith
27.
28.
29. John Philippe Rushton
30. Thomas Jefferson
31. Baruch Spinoza
32. Sun Tzu
33. Immanuel Kant
2. Plutarch, Edward Gibbon, Thucydides, Tacitus, Herodotus, Xenophon,
3. Plato
4.
5. David Hume
6. Charles Murray
7. Thomas Paine
8. Aeschylus/Euripides/Sophocles/Aristophanes
9. Bertrand Russel
10. Friedrich Nietzsche
11. Aristotle
12. Homer
13. Jean-Jacques Rousseau
14. James Boswell/Samuel Johnson
15. Blaise Pascal
16. Lucretius
17.
18.
19. Ann Coulter
20. Jeff Shaara
21. Charles Darwin
22. Karl Marx
23. Craig Winn
24. Thomas Malthus
25. Voltaire
26. Adam Smith
27.
28.
29. John Philippe Rushton
30. Thomas Jefferson
31. Baruch Spinoza
32. Sun Tzu
33. Immanuel Kant
34.
This way the non-fiction authors get 28 bronze medals.
Moving on to movies, many are of historical nature and thus ineligible. Others are focused on world-building instead of character driven. Gettysburg and Gods & Generals is already covered by Jeff Shaara's bronze medal. Red Cliff is covered by the Dynasty Warriors games. Pride and Prejudice is covered by Jane Austin's bronze medal. Gladiator and 300 overlap with accounts by non-fiction authors of Greco-Roman history. Still others feature flawed characters that may make for an engaging story but not an engaging individual:
9. Stardust
10. Braveheart, The Patriot, Apocalypto
11. 'Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon', Hero, Curse of the Golden Flower, House of Flying Daggers, Fearless
12. Gone With the Wind

If you break down the movies into their individual franchises, there's 75 bronze medalists. All in all that makes 140 bronze franchises.
So between the golden 300, the silver 60 and the bronze 140, we get 500 artistic medalists. This is all the art/literature of any worth ever made. Amazingly, it's still such a small number that a single lifetime can consume it all.
A new title for this category of great artistic works, encompassing all the medalists, would be the 'Immortal 500.' Because they should all be passed down to our progeny for eternity, because their wisdom and beauty is too great to be lost to time.
