Isekai Nidome desu: Another trashy series where the girls are overly affectionate while the boys are overly standoffish for no known reason. Fail.
Otonari no Ginga: Aliens come to Earth to become manga assistants. They use old paper and pen technology because star faring species apparently haven't invented computers yet. Fail.
World Dai Star: This series is a carbon-copy of Kageki Shoujo with better art. Since I liked Kageki Shoujo and this has better art I suppose I like this show too. Pass.
Tengoku Daimakyou: The second episode was an LGBT bonanza with a lesbian kiss and a transgender announcement. Since 40% of the youth are now LGBT I suppose a lot of anime will be doing this, but I'm not interested. Fail.
Ao no Orchestra: A mopey guy is depressed about everything and sucks at everything except music, which he's abandoned because his father kicked the bucket. But don't worry, there's a redemption arc in the offing. Except I don't like the guy so I don't want him to be redeemed and don't care if he is. Fail.
Kanojo ga Koushaku-tei: The series was in English instead of the proper Japanese, so I couldn't watch it. I'm sure it was bad anyway. Fail.
Dead Mount Death Play: A show about a powerful necromancer dying in a fantasy world and being reborn on Earth, a reverse of the norm. It has amazing animation budget. I don't have much confidence in the direction this show is going, but it's fine for a first episode. Pass.
Kimi wa Houkago Insomnia: Like a girl falling from the sky into your lap, except in this version the girl can't sleep without sleeping in your lap. So a girl you did nothing to earn suddenly dotes on you. I don't like unearned contrived scenarios like this. Fail.
Oshi no ko: Through a series of infinitely unlikely coincidences, a doctor is reborn as the twin child of an idol he admires, and the twin sibling of a patient he once cared for, with his full cognizance and memories intact. Then that idol is murdered by a dumb fan, and it suddenly falls on him to avenge said mother's death. All of that is the prologue that only sets up the actual story. Normally I would reject such a mess, but the dialogue was sharp and insightful, and the art, especially the eyes, was really good. I can't reject even a mess like this when it's so gripping. Pass.
That sums up the Spring anime season. The shows airing this spring are ranked in terms of what I'm most looking forward to per week, not their overall franchise worth:
