Xenoblade Chronicles Beaten:

There's still a bonus epilogue story I haven't completed yet but that doesn't matter.  The point is I defeated the evil God trying to absorb all life on the planet and saved the world.  This despite the fact that I'm still too weak to defeat various spiders in caves and giants in mountains all over the world.  They're too strong for me, but God is no problemo.

I've never seen a more level-based power system.  Six levels ago I couldn't do anything to Zanza no matter how many different strategies I tried.  Six levels later he was a piece of cake who offered no resistance.  It was the same throughout the game, impossible enemies became easy three levels later.  Nothing you did outside of leveling made any difference.  It's a very frustrating, boring system that rewards grinding and nothing else.

The gameplay was terrible -- but the music, scenery and voice acting easily made up for it.  You get to hear Cell's voice actor go up against Vegeta's yet again in what had to be an intentional casting decision.  What more could you ask for?  Fiora's beautiful in body and soul.  I'm so glad she was back to her human body by the ending, she looks great with her new short hair.

You would expect the makers of Xenogears and Xenosaga to be able to make good games.  Xenoblade is a big step down from those legendary works, but it was still better than nothing.  A positive contribution to the world.  Hopefully Xenoblade 2 is better, which logically should be my next target.

It's very disappointing, but the soundtrack to Kamisama ni Natta hi still isn't available anywhere outside of Japan.  I guess I was the only one eagerly anticipating Jun Maeda's latest masterpiece.

March still has some other treats on offer, though.  The newest Grisaia ova comes out on the 29th and the last Fate/Heaven's Feel movie comes out on the 31st.  It depends on fansubbers how quickly that translates into subbed releases over here.  Then on April 7th the long anticipated Omoi, Omoware movie is released which again, depending on fansubbers, we'll get to enjoy soon.

Random Curiosity has released its traditional spring preview, and indeed the spring anime season is only a week away.  I'm looking forward to Edens Zero most but there should be plenty of good stuff.  On top of that we're still in the midst of March Madness.  Once Edens Zero airs its first episode I'll replace Idoly Pride in my rankings with it.  Idoly Pride couldn't live up to its excellent start and needs to quietly exit as quickly as it appeared.  Uma Musume, on the other hand, has been amazing from start to finish and once the season ends is going to zoom up the rankings.  A tale of two winter anime, as it were.

Though I don't consider this particularly good news, Hanyou no Yashahime is also getting a second season.  Think of all that animation that could have gone towards other Rumiko Takahashi works like Ranma 1/2, Mao or Kyoukai no Rinne.  Instead we get more Inuyasha filler.  Sigh.
