The first new ranked anime of the year. It sure took long enough, the year is almost over. A lot of this is due to covid-19, which made a mess of anime all year. The recovery begins now, though.
I pretty much knew this series would be ranked once it began, but the opening and ending sequences gave me a fillericious scare. Based on the second episode, which is still canon, I can now discard those fears. They're just dumb, inaccurate opening and endings. Ignore them and plunge in to this great series. It's slime time.
This is such a peaceful series, even though it involves climactic battles. Ryoma is so ridiculously powerful that it's still a walk in the park. And meanwhile, his sewer and clothes-washing services are where the real action is at. I guess janitors always deserved their own tale sooner or later.
An eccentric isekai to be sure, but filling an underserved niche. Both the coolness of slimes and the usefulness of janitors has never been addressed in anime until now. Plus the voice acting and art are captivating. I have no complaints with the budget put into this series, unlike Kuma Kuma Kuma Bear. This is now must-see tv. To make room in my top 200 anime list, I kicked out RG Veda, a meaninglessly small 2 part ova from the ancient past. No one will miss it. Kami-tachi will stay at #200 until the show is over and I can gauge its true value.
Hopefully a bunch more ranked series will join the fold from this still unfolding fall season. The other contenders have yet to prove themselves unlike Kami-tachi. There are still more shows I'd like to replace, which means newcomers are vociferously welcome despite how poorly they've fared so far this year.
