Mark of the Traitor is a Remix:

After listening to it 75 times, I finally decided Mark of the Traitor was a remix of Barret's Theme and had no innate value of its own.  I therefore kicked it out of my music hall of fame, while graduating Barret's Theme into the 100 listens category by combining the times I listened to it with the times I listened to Mark of the Traitor.  Now I won't be listening to either song for quite a while.

Mark of the Traitor might have some original tune somewhere in there, lasting ten seconds or so, but it just isn't enough to justify a slot like that.  As much as I love FF 7, it too needs to follow the rules, and the rules say only original melodies can be in my music hall of fame.  Back down to 5462 songs.

It's pretty crazy that I'm still unearthing remixes this late in, but I wouldn't be surprised if there were more yet to come.  Remixes are extremely hard to identify when they change the pacing, instruments, etc.  You really have to know your songs like the back of your hand to suss them out.

If I listened to music non-stop, mathematically, I could finish this project in a year, but realistically speaking it will probably take two years.  Still, that's a lot closer to finished than when I started.  Victory is within my grasp.  100 listens to every song to prove its worth, and the survivors of that process will then truly be my music hall of fame, famed for making it through even a 100 listening gauntlet and still being loved on the other side.  From there I can rate them even more finely by attaching a 1-5 star rating born from the intimate knowledge gained about the tunes over the course of the 100 listens.  I can't wait to reach that moment!
