Top Anime Rankings Revisited:

I couldn't stand waiting any longer so I went ahead and changed my rankings a week before Hero Academia officially ends.  I'd seen enough.

Kimetsu no Yaiba stays ahead of Hero Academia at #63, and Hero Academia moves up to #64.  As two shonen jump series which will presumably be supported with many more anime sequels long into the future these rankings are probably still too low, but it's a good start.

Nekopara, my other new anime entry, moved up to #185, which is still behind Tears to Tiara which moved up to #181.

The most important movements were in the top 30 though:

Bleach received the welcome announcement that the final arc of the series will be adapted as an anime.  This jumped the series up to #5, beating out One Piece which now falls to #6.  Why is Bleach better than One Piece?  Bleach is more mature in its themes, and it doesn't have to rely on a fansub group to edit its episodes to remove all the endless filler.  If One Pace ever gives up One Piece becomes unwatchable -- that's not a problem for Bleach.  Bleach's final arc can have the exact right pacing from beginning to end because the manga is already complete.

Pretty Cure moved up one slot to #4 due to Healin' Good's quality and the aforementioned problems with One Piece these days.

Meanwhile, I decided to prioritize completed series over incomplete ones, so Nanoha dropped down to 18, Bakemonogatari to 19, and Seikai no Monshou to 26.

A bunch of series jumped up into the 70's-80's range -- Air, Ryuuou, No Game no Life, Kanata no Astra, Koutetsujou no Kabaneri, Akame ga Kill! and Touch/MIX, many benefiting from my recent approval after rewatching them.

Amagi Brilliant Park clawed its way back up to 178 due to the quality of Kyoto Animation's animation.  There were other minor changes up and down the line.  In order to view all the details, you can always check out my permapost link:  http://diamed-the-road-less-traveled.blogspot.com/2013/07/top-anime-rankings.html

I also edited '100 Waifus' by changing out 1 more composer name for a genuine fictional character.  Veronica from Dragon Quest XI is a wonderful addition to my lineup.  She's cute as a button with her garish red witch outfit and tiny height, and her courage and devotion to protect the Luminary's life even at the sacrifice of her own is something I'll never forget.  What a wonderful girl and what a wonderful game.

The composer had her own problems.  First off, she was named Noriko, which overlapped with another child's name.  I'd like to reduce overlaps as much as possible.  Secondly, it's not clear how much good music she's even responsible for, since she collaborated with Takahito Eguchi to produce the FF X-2 ost.  Should I be honoring someone whose claim to fame is dubious to begin with?  Finally, if I'm going to be stuck with all these composers, I'd rather have the round number of a top 25 lineup instead of the random and off-putting number of 26.  For all these reasons Noriko had to go.

Will more composers be axed in the future?  Most likely, but 25 is a good number so I'll probably stick with this lineup for a good while now.

Dimension W's final volume comes out tomorrow.  I'm stoked.  This is a major event, like the end of Death March, but hopefully it will be pulled off a lot better than Death March was.

Right after that comes the start of the spring anime season, which of course I'll be writing a first impressions post about as it comes out.  Unfortunately SAO doesn't begin for another month, but the rest of the spring lineup will swing into action over the next few days.  Plus Btooom!'s manga ends this April (unless the translation is delayed again), and Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 1 comes out, so it's a huge month.  March without March Madness sucked.  But an April like this will wash the bitter taste right out of our mouths.
