This was a nice fun read. There was plenty of puzzle like action sequences that always left you excited with how clever the heroes were for negotiating their challenges, and tons of silly humor mixed in to lighten the tone. After all, it is all just a game. It's fun to be the best at something and be acknowledged by everyone around you. Llenn is certainly living the high life.
Speaking of games, No Game no Life volume 10 is available at nyaa.si. Go ahead and read it as a stick in the eye to that Australian senator. Who knows, in a few years it could be illegal to read as banned 'child pornography', so may as well do so while you still can, before it's scrubbed off the internet entirely.
I'm making good progress in Senren * Banka, with only Roka's route left to conquer. Mako was nude in over half her route, it was a little over the top.
I re-read I"s, and was yet again floored by probably the best looking manga of all time. All his drawings of Iori are so exquisite they could be framed and staged at the Louvre. The plot was pretty ridiculous, and the portion after they'd already confessed to each other even more unbelievable than all that came before. There's no employers on Earth who would act that way, they would get sued if they tried, and nobody on Earth would put up with that treatment and go along with it either. Yet again we find that the only thing that makes a boy attractive to the girls is his ability to fight off the threat of other boys who want to rape them. So if there were no boys at all there would be no reason for boys to begin with. Such a stupid basis for romance. But I guess that's reality for you. In truth, once you take away boys' roles as protectors and providers girls really aren't interested anymore. So a romance that doesn't involve those roles is pretty much impossible to write.
The plot doesn't matter much though. I"s is about the art, and people's feelings. The feelings of Ichitaka and Iori are so subtle and volatile, like fragile soap bubbles floating through the air that could be popped at any moment. The discussion of those feelings is so exquisite. It's really beautiful how people can communicate so many different shades of emotion along the same gradient.
I'd forgotten Izumi even existed until I re-read the story, but boy is she pretty. I'm not very fond of her homewrecker attitude but I'm sure happy to see her on page. What marvelous artistry.
Iori was prettier -- and more likable, in the first volumes, when she was innocent and selfless. But I'm glad she reformed her evil ways by the end. And yes, sacrificing your boyfriend for an opportunity at work is evil. I guess in real life too, people aren't always as great as they used to be, but you just have to hope that they'll come back around, that their inner goodness that you first noticed in them will ultimately prevail.
Railgun has been delayed another two weeks. Ugh. It was my favorite show of the season too.
In a recent study, 75% of high schoolers report school as an overall negative experience. The three emotions most associated with school were 'tired,' 'stressed,' and 'bored.' We're torturing 3/4 of the population for over a decade to no seeming effect. After leaving school, they're no better prepared for a job than people who never went to school. They don't even seem to know any more. There are many obvious ways this could be improved. We could start teaching children the truth instead of lies. We could stop teaching worthless trivia that we only teach because it is difficult to grasp or memorize, like chemical reaction equations and trigonometry, and teach them something genuinely interesting and useful to their lives, like high quality literature and philosophy. We could cut the number of hours they attend school and open school later in the morning so kids get enough sleep. We could stop assigning homework. The school experience doesn't have to be hell, it's a choice we're actively making. We don't have to put kids through hell in order to teach them how to read, write, and do arithmetic. These skills are simple and easy to pick up and hardly take 13 years to master.
Anyone who does not seek to abolish or reform schools such that 3/4 of kids are enjoying it instead of hating their lives is actively torturing children and thus about as evil as you can humanly get. These are innocent children, little girls (who actually report school as more negative than boys), being tortured by the hundreds of millions. How does the Holocaust even measure up to that? Or the Holodomor or the Killing Fields of Cambodia or whatever atrocity you want to trumpet? Hundreds of millions of the most angelic people on Earth tortured for no reason, to no gain. It's disgusting. Again, American culture, which includes compulsory public education, and was exported to the entire world that used to not behave in this manner, is the worst culture in history. It ruins more lives than any other way of life ever lived.
You would think this is obvious by the results -- 42% obesity, 50% on drugs, 50% divorce, 50% adultery, skyrocketing suicide rates, 75% of kids hate school, fertility rates in freefall, which necessarily means pair-bonding rates are in freefall, the rise of weird new mental illnesses overtaking 20% of the population, millennials making less money than boomers did at the same age despite the obvious productivity gains of computers and the internet that should have made making a living easy, there isn't a single statistic that shows the quality of life of the average American is higher today than it was in the 1800's.
We all know what a horrendous gauntlet we're running our children through, from a terrible home environment full of divorce and single parenting, to a terrible school environment full of stress and boredom, so overworked they're left tired throughout the day, to a terrible college environment of promiscuous sex, alcohol binges, queer exploration, giant debt levels that can never be repaid, and drugs, to a terrible work environment where it's impossible to get ahead no matter how qualified you are due to H1-B visa competition, affirmative action for unqualified women and minorities, and boomers who never retire no matter old how they are taking all the senior positions, where you spend more time each day being lectured about your racism and sexism in diversity training exercises than actually providing valuable products to customers. All of life is already charted out for these children with absolutely no escape hatch. Every step of the way they're tortured by the culture and institutions they had no hand in creating, their souls warped beyond recognition, so that whatever spark of divinity was gifted to them at birth no longer functions by the time they hit 30.
Anyone who lives as a cog in this cultural machinery is evil. To help it along, to aid and abet it, is unforgivable. You are literally torturing hundreds of millions of innocent children from birth till death. Anyone who is not plotting revolution against this evil organization is a part of the problem and equally to blame.
We need a billionaire to step forward and fund a village sized private property where everyone who is not evil can gather together and raise their children with the right values. All of this can be done legally and non-violently within the current United States system. You purchase the land, you let people move in and give them housing allotments, they 'home school' the children as a community and raise their own children how they please, which is the way they all agreed to raise them before entering the billionaire's territory. Then the children seamlessly fall in love with each other, because that's the only people they're exposed to, they reinforce the values that were instilled in them since birth by being around only other people indoctrinated in the same manner, and then they produce the next generation together. A single billionaire could create a self-sustaining, completely alternate life trajectory for America and for America's children.
No one is forced to go to school, imbibe the pro-transexual agenda of the media, be taught the values of feminism, egalitarianism, or anti-racism. All of this is voluntary. If we simply seclude ourselves away from these poisonous ideas and raise children down a separate path, then they will live completely different lives -- just like the Americans of 1920, 1880, 1760 or the Europeans of 500 BC did. There is no innate reason why we have to throw all babies into the modernity meatgrinder.
Morally speaking, it is absolutely unacceptable that we do so.
The only thing keeping a moral community from coagulating is a shortage of funding. We can't afford to uproot ourselves away from our jobs or buy new real estate. But one patriotic billionaire could settle all financial concerns in a flash, setting up the entire community for life. From there, our innately better system full of innately better people will be able to sustain themselves economically just fine with commerce exclusively between each other. Farming, handicrafts, services, whatever we need, we can provide each other -- so long as that initial groundwork is already done and we don't start off starving. City-states thrived all across history, from Athens to Genoa. Nothing would stop us from succeeding economically among ourselves just like they did.
There are so many good-hearted people who hate to see what is happening to generation after generation of kids, who would love to rescue them out of the clutches of darkness, and would love to raise their own children in a clean and non-corrupting environment. There are millions of us, larger than the populations of many currently existing nations. There is no reason why we can't have self-determination like they already have. There is nothing stopping us save a lack of will.
How is it possible that there isn't a single person on Earth who is both rich and virtuous? What kind of demonic system has been set up, such that the only way to succeed is to be pro-child-torture? Doesn't even one billionaire have a heart? Is there no one who wants children to grow up healthy and happy again, with realistically good life prospects in terms of financial success, spiritual health and family formation?
We know what works -- the virtues that powered the good lives of everyone before modernity. Combined with new powerful technologies, we should be the happiest people in history. Instead, according to all testing, we're the most depressed. It doesn't have to be this way. Get rid of the awful school system, stop brainwashing children with egalitarianism via the media, and we could all be God's children again. It's so horrible what is happening every day to these completely innocent children. How do the billionaires stomach it all, knowing they could wave their hands and fix everything, but instead doing absolutely nothing? How could you have that much power to do good and instead blow it on yachts or curing malaria in Africa, which just results in an even more overpopulated continent, or whatever the hell they're doing? Who are these idiots or villains and why were they selected by our current economic system to have all the power on Earth? Why do we put up with them? With this?
