March Madness Canceled:

My plans for the next month have gone up in smoke.  The corona virus isn't to blame, it's the insane level of panic over it, completely unsupported by the data, which is to blame.  Only old people have any real risk of dying from this disease.  Healthy young people, especially athletes, even if they caught corona virus, probably wouldn't even notice!

So why not let them play?  What difference would it make?  What difference does a bunch old people dying make to the economy?  So why is the stock market in freefall?  Deaths from corona virus are like 1/100,000 the deaths from the ordinary flu, most of whom are elderly as well, and the stock market didn't even blink over that.  No one cares about 80 year old's dying in nursing homes when it's the flu, so why should the stock market collapse when they die of a different flu?  I've never seen anything like this.  The entire economy up in smoke over a dumb rumor.  48 deaths so far in America.  That's it!  A bus wreck can kill that many.  A plane crash kills more.  Did the stock market drop 10,000 points every time a plane crashed in America?

For quite some time I've been talking about how rotten and undermined the foundations of this nation are, but to think a rumor could destroy it without even lifting a finger to do any actual harm.  What a farce.

To put this in perspective, March Madness has happened like clockwork every year since 1939.  It was not cancelled during World War II, the Korean War, the Vietnam War, the Cuban Missile Crisis, 9/11, you name it.  But a rumor was enough to shut it down in the fine year of 2020.  How cowardly can you possibly get?  The finest young athletes in the country fleeing in fear of a disease that only kills 80 year old's. . . It's absolutely unprecedented.  But I suppose this sort of real physical decay is foredoomed once social rot reaches a certain level.  Atlas Shrugged predicted this as well, and there's always South Africa's power failures as evidence.  If you go too far down the rabbit hole of insane ideologies pretty soon even basic living routines become insuperable.  The biggest ideological mistake to blame for this travesty is the Christian/Liberal line, 'all life is sacred.'  This puts saving lives as a higher priority over everything else, including quality of life.  March Madness is one of the best quality of life providers in the modern world.  The whole country looks forward to it as much as Christmas.  But now we must all sacrifice our quality of life for the mere extension of our lifespans.

Lifespans without quality of life are called torture chambers.

The equation should be 'lifespan multiplied by quality of life,' not mere lifespan on its own as the ultimate value.  But because Christianity randomly elevated the mere presence of life to be some sort of sacred inviolate priority, now we reap the consequences downstream and March Madness is gone.

How many kids would have traded their entire life, from this point until they die at 80, for a chance at glory in this tournament?  How many would have happily made that gamble?  But they weren't even given the choice to volunteer.  March Madness champions are remembered forever.  Honored by hundreds of millions of people if not billions.  There is nothing you can do in your life after this that will hold a candle to what you could have done in those few weeks.

Think of all the sports people willingly played with a higher death rate than the chance of catching the coronavirus and dying from it while playing basketball -- jousting, football, boxing, horse-racing, the marathon -- this is so utterly absurd.  Are all men pussies these days?  They won't venture anything for eternal glory?  Nothing at all?  Of course it isn't really the athletes' faults, I'm sure they want to play.  It's this entire womanly culture that has overtaken everything and even polluted our male pastimes like March Madness.

The next sporting event to go down will be the Olympics, even though it only comes once every four years, and in particular to Japan only once a century.  Even more athletes' dreams will be shattered, and even more fans, billions of them, denied a happy summer.  All over nothing.  A mere rumor.  How many 80 year olds will be participating in the Olympics?  In that case, what is there to fear?

Meanwhile, the newest volume of Index's new third series is out and translated over at baka tsuki -- Genesis Testament volume 1.  It's been pretty good so far, I'm sure I'll finish it soon since there's no basketball to watch anymore.

Also, I changed 1 name in '100 Waifus' fictional character hall of fame, from Kazuhiro to Valashu.  Kazuhiro is a good composer but nothing special, and this is supposedly a fictional character hall of fame, not a composers' hall of fame, so Valashu Elahad as the sole representative of the great Ea Cycle novel series has a far better claim to attention.  I'd like to reduce the number of composers in my list in the future as well, but it will require more good fictional characters to do so.  At least now the composers list stops at a nice round even 50.
