The edits were needed all the way through the final chapter. Most of it was proofreading type corrections -- from spacing to punctuation to capitalization to spelling to grammar to syntax. It felt like there were still endless problems requiring fixing. It's hard to believe I missed all these issues the first 17 times around but there they were nonetheless.
One particularly embarrassing mistake involved me failing to count correctly and listing a group of 15 wives as 14 over and over again. That's been fixed. Sheesh.
Some more serious corrections involved filling in plot holes and rewording awkwardly phrased sentences. For instance, I added in the detail that Shirahoshi appeared as human sized to Christopher's augmented reality goggles, or else she would have dominated the entire family photo portrait and blotted everyone else out. If the audience isn't told these things they'll always be left wondering. It's important to assuage their concerns.
I deleted an obsolete sentence listing the names of the tenthborn composer kids. Now that all composers have their first and last names as part of their official child names it's easy to recognize the composers I'm talking about, so the information was redundant.
The book is absurdly polished after 18 editions, but I still have a lurking fear that there are more corrections to do I'll only discover on the 19th try. This book is so vast and deep, it feels like I discover something new about it every time.
One thing I did notice is that the book, even on the 18th time, was still as emotionally engaging as ever. The sexy scenes were still sexy. The romantic scenes were still heartwarming. The jokes were still funny, the lectures were still persuasive, everything worked. Sometimes I felt like the scenes were more impactful than ever before. How can you not tire of a book after 18 times in little over a single year? The answer is, if the book is perfect, you never get tired of it. It's just magical. I even loved the long lists of children's names and read each of them carefully, both instances, for every generation. It's a fun mini-game to use the clues provided to figure out the fictional character identity of every name listed as you read along. The helpful section at the back of the book is a sort of cheat sheet to check your answers against.
The only thing I'd like to change about the book is some names in the fictional character hall of fame. I'd love to find dozens of better characters and slot them in place of underperformers. There's still plenty of new works coming out -- maybe I'll find some from Tonikaku Kawaii -- so eventually the fictional character hall of fame will be perfect, just not today.
It's a very minor quibble in the ultimate swing of things, though. This is the best book ever written. With the new Nekone section all the moreso. Every new section I've added to this book has been wonderful. They feel like they've been there from the beginning, they're so vital and organic to the overall flow. I'm happy every time I come across them in their embedded, natural states.
Now's the time for everyone to start reading this perfect gem, so here are the links in five parts:

I'm going to keep re-reading this book until I can read through the entire tome without having to edit anything. Only then can I say my job as editor is done. But I can at least wait until after March Madness before I pick it up again.
Meanwhile, I completely finished Senren * Banka. It's sad that even a visual novel of this quality can't break into my top ten rankings. Eventually I might need to expand my rankings to honor stories like these, but I guess for now it's fine.
I also watched all of Dragon Ball Super Heroes and listed it as a 'good' anime runner-up, the same for Nekopara.
