The 197th entrant to my anime voices hall of fame is Naoya Uchida. Another old pro who's been around forever, his most famous and important role is as Madara Uchiha. This low and sinister voice is also showing up for the mercenary Askeladd in Vinland Saga, which renewed my interest in him.
Only three more slots to go.
Provisionally, I have 67 more Nobuo Uematsu songs lined up to enter my music hall of fame. I'd like to playtest them a bit longer though to see if they're truly deserving of entry. Certainly if they reach 40 playthroughs and I still like them I'll formally adopt them, but it's going to be a long time before that can happen.
Digging where there's oil is a good strategy, as is listening to Nobuo Uematsu in search of great music, but even Nobuo isn't great every single time. Especially when it comes to his later career, it's a lot more hit and miss. Still, 67 songs would be a huge improvement. It took a lot of effort reaching 1,000 new songs last year, but this time 67 songs were already sitting in my lap. I had already downloaded all these soundtracks in search of new good music years ago, they were just waiting for the right time to be properly appreciated.
This music doesn't have to be as good as the average hall of fame song -- they just have to be as good as the worst hall of fame song. If they're as good as somebody who already qualified, well then they should qualify too. And the bottom of the Nobuo barrel is above average relative to everybody else.
Each playthrough of the collective new songs takes 2 hours, so 40 times = 80 hours, or 3.33 days. But of course I can't listen to the music all day every day, so more like I'll know how good these songs are in a week or two.
It's nice to have something new to do this August. This can tide me over until a week or two from now, where new stuff like the Youjo Senki movie is released.
