Amagi Brilliant Park volume 5 read:

This volume is about how great Macaron is, despite the fact that he's already been established to be a hopelessly obnoxious and contemptible fellow.  As such I could never really summon any enthusiasm.  There's also some stuff about how hard Moffle works, how randomly violent the women of the Park are (just like the men), etc.  It's all played off for laughs, but none of it is funny.  It's just people being violent and hurting each other for no reason.

If the books continue in this vein, perhaps the anime is the superior version of the story after all.  Luckily volume 6 is coming out soon, in July, so we'll get to see if things improve any.  Of course, there's way too much violence in the anime too, which is to be expected since it's based off of the books, but at least it was animated by Kyoto Animation and the elemental faeries were gorgeous.

This is becoming a distressing trend.  An anime appears, that's an adaption of a light novel series.  It's really good.  So I check out the light novel series hoping for more of the same -- and the quality drops like a rock.  No Game No Life, Zero no Tsukaima, Amagi Brilliant Park, Gate, even Hai to Gensou no Grimgar.  The anime covers the best scenes in the books and what's left is just a picked over carcass.  There was no point in continuing the anime because there was nothing good left to animate.  That's probably why the anime were all discontinued in the first place.

We have no choice but to keep reading, though, if we want to see the ending to the characters we've been made to care about.  So onwards the series roll.

Game of Thrones had a satisfying ending.  I think a conclave of lords electing their king each time around is a brilliant idea.  Bran makes for a responsible king who won't do any more harm to the already ravaged land.  Daenarys made too many enemies and had too few friends, so it was inevitable she would be assassinated.  I didn't think Jon would do it, I figured it would be Arya, but oh well.  Same difference.  All in all things went as could be expected in this final episode.

A genuinely good American television show is as rare as a unicorn, so I have no complaints.  I tip my hats to the people who pulled it off.  Now I'd like to see George R.R. Martin's take on the same tale and see how things happen 'for real.'  Hopefully he finishes his story before he dies.  Maybe in that version Littlefinger becomes king.

With Amagi and Game of Thrones done, I have to wait until the 21st before Imouto Sae Ireba Ii volume 4 and Dimension W volume 14 come out.  I guess there's always more Hello, Goodbye. . .
