Spring 2019 Anime First Impressions: Part 2

Yatogame-chan Kansatsu Nikki:  Why did I even bother?  A short that relies on sex pun jokes. . .  Fail.

501st Butai:  This isn't really Strike Witches.  It's some dumb gag manga spinoff written by someone other than the original authors.  On top of that the art and animation budget is piss-poor and everything looks awful.  Avoid at all costs.  Fail.

Kenja no Mago:  A pretty typical isekai.  I like isekai so even mediocre fare like this gets a pass.  The main character is super overpowered -- but that's always the case these days.  I dunno.  Just like a fizzy drink that's gone flat.  Pass.

Sewayaka Kitsune:  A fox goddess descends to Earth to do the job women were meant to do but no longer do -- service a guy at home once he gets back from work.  I think it's atrocious that the only way a guy can hope to be treated to a decent life is if a Goddess starts granting him miracles.  This should be ordinary.  If he works this hard and earns this much, why aren't women just lining up for him?  Why does a fox need to intervene?  To make matters worse the guy just has this infinitely timid, boring personality that makes him insufferable.  Fail.

Carole and Tuesday:  It's clear this show is aiming to be an artistic masterpiece and a phenom.  A lot of very talented people have put a lot of work into it.  It has a huge budget.  However, as a racist, I find it very difficult to enjoy a story featuring a black female protagonist.  She has light skin, which helps, but the 'sass' is unmistakably there.  The story so far is basically Nana except substitute the punk rocker  Nana in for a black woman.  Nana was already mediocre so Nana + black woman. . .?  Oh well, out of deference for all the talent and hard work put into this series I'll give it a shot.  Pass.

1.  Fairy Tail S3
2.  Kimetsu no Yaiba
3.  Star Twinkle Precure
4.  Mix
5.  One Piece
6.  Shoumetsu Toshi
7.  Hachigatsu Cinderella Nine
8.  Tate no Yuusha no Nariagari
9.  Gunjou no Magmel
10.  Yu-No
11.  Hitoribocchi no 00 Seikatsu
12.  Senryuu Shoujo
13.  Kenja no Mago
14.  Nobunaga-sensei
15.  Carole & Tuesday
16.  Bolt
17.  Fairy Gone

Shingeki no Kyojin S3 will be joining the mix shortly, so that makes 18 shows for the spring season.  That's a jam-packed spring lineup.

If Kimetsu no Yaiba lives up to its potential and becomes a great anime the spring season will have done its part.
