What Liberals mean by "Diversity is our strength":

It appears a lot of conservatives are confused as to what liberals mean by 'diversity.'  So let me explain.

Diversity is our strength refers to America's ability to assimilate people from all over the world who then contribute to America with their unique talents, viewpoints and skills.

Because we are willing to take people from all over with the drive to succeed the country as a whole is a richer, smarter, more open minded and forward looking place.

It's the unique trait of Americans that we are able to get along despite being so diverse, unlike the USSR, Yugoslavia and the rest who fall apart.  No matter how many European ethnicities America imported, whether it was Irish, Italians, Jews, Poles, Germans, Lithuanians or Swedes, they all became Americans and succeeded beyond our wildest dreams.  While Europe had endless bloodletting wars over Protestantism vs. Catholicism, our embracing of diversity meant Protestants and Catholics coexisted without any issues, both contributing to the American fabric.

For hundreds of years we've been an easy-going, accepting country that said, "we don't care who you are, where you came from, or what you believe, you're welcome to try your luck here and pursue the American dream."

As a result our economy is double that of the typical European country and we haven't had any political crisis or civil wars in hundreds of years.  Just look at the intolerant Europe, which insisted on homogeneity, and how much blood was shed over their stupid quibbles over nothing.

The fact that America can work just fine with a mix of French, Germans and Brits makes the entirety of European history so laughable.  Why were they fighting all those wars?  What was it all for?  If they had just realized that diversity isn't an issue they could have united just like we did.

It isn't the diversity per se that is America's strength.  It's our ability to realize that diversity doesn't matter, only individuals matter, and that surface characteristics of diversity are no encumbrance to a successful, prosperous, peaceful, unified state.  Our strength is how we, uniquely in the whole world, tolerate diversity.  The strength part comes from our ability to accept talented, driven people from all over the world who want to contribute to America and make their fortunes here.  We symbiotically feed off their energy and produce the most dynamic economy on Earth as a result.

And so long as we were importing Indian IT workers, Chinese, Vietnamese, or people from other civilized nations, Democrats would be right about this statement.  The problem is that never before in American history have we attempted to assimilate third world barbarians into the mix.

It turns out there are some groups of people that are unassimilable.  Low IQ people can't succeed in America no matter what they do.  The same for adherents to a violent religion which openly preaches death to all infidels (ie, their own countrymen and neighbors.)  If liberals would just let us screen out these two groups, then 'diversity is our strength' would start working splendidly again, just like it did since America's founding.

But since 'diversity is our strength' has now metastasized to 'lacking any standards or norms of behavior whatsoever is our strength,' the creed has become toxic.  There are billions of low IQ, high psychopathic personality, dangerous zealots around the world who have nothing to contribute to America.  They destroy their own countries and they destroy every country they move to -- no one has ever benefited from Gypsy diversity, and it's been tried everywhere.  America proved that you can assimilate more widely varied groups than Europe imagined.  But that can't just be extended to infinity.  It doesn't mean you can assimilate anyone.

This reminds me of a scene from Imouto Sae Ireba Ii where an author writes up an imouto character that's a six meter tall unthinking blob that only tries to eat her older brother, as a thought experiment to see whether it was still possible to love this creature based on the fact that it was an 'imouto.'  The author decided it was just barely possible and that yes, imoutos trump all other considerations.  This is the liberal philosophy on diversity.  There is no diversity we cannot handle.  Everyone is a diamond in the rough.  Bring every last one of them in, we fear absolutely nothing.

The imouto lover is meant to be a joke, a satire towards people who are suckers for the imouto genre.  Liberals are dead serious.  They honestly think that they could assimilate unthinking, six meter tall blobs that just want to eat them into the American fabric.

It's unfortunate that humans tend to think in extremes.  Aristotle said virtue was finding the golden mean between two points -- for instance recklessness and cowardice.  He felt that any sentiment, however well natured, would result in evil if pursued too far.  But it appears low IQ people just can't keep up with this level of thought.  If something is good in one circumstance it must be good under all circumstances, so every principle must be pursued to its most ludicrous implication.

Because people cannot handle nuanced thinking -- that maybe 'X' group is assimilable but 'Y' group is not, you end up having to choose between only the two extremes.  Either you must go with liberalism and accept every last person on Earth into America, or you must be a Nazi who only allows perfect homogeneity within their community.

I was fine with the original American model where Germans, French and Brits coexisted, but if that means I have to accept ISIS and MS-13 too, then no thank you.  I'll just go with Nazism and keep everyone out.  Because humans are too stupid to understand that diversity can be good at one level but not at another, we must choose all or nothing.  Complete tolerance is like a body without an immune system, leading to instant death.  So the alternative is complete intolerance, which would lead to a nice, homogeneous country like Iceland or Japan.  I think it's pretty clear, if I have to choose one or the other, which we should go with.
