Because the book was fun this time around, it was a breeze to read all the way through quickly. The story focused mainly on Valentine's Day and the heroines' feelings for the protagonist. He ended up getting a mountain of chocolate due to the mountain of love he'd created throughout his heroic ventures in previous volumes. Because it gave all the girls in the story a chance to reflect on their feelings for Maou and clarify them a bit further, it progressed the plot at least a little.
Even so, while mittens spent all year translating this volume, the author actually wrote two more -- volumes 18 and 19, so now we're actually further behind than when we started. The translation has to speed up or the author needs to finish already so people can eventually catch up later -- every other road leads to eternal despair.
I have no idea why this series is so long. It doesn't seem like the sort of plot that could be sustained over such a gigantic length, but here we are all the same. If the quality of the books stays at this level, I guess I don't mind. There was nothing better to do this September anyway.
