I've been griping for a while now that I had 7 songs I wanted to promote to 5-star but no open slots to put them in. I finally found the solution when I came across 7 5-star ranked Street Fighter songs, lined up and bunched together like they wanted to be slaughtered wholesale. Street Fighter II songs are certainly memorable, but they aren't moving. Jazzy, yes. Emotional, no. They're just the sort of songs that are overrated due to their source work's fame as opposed to their actual musical worth.
Now all seven of my waiting-to-be-promoted songs have been promoted to their true worth at the top of the rankings: Portamento, World Map (FF Tactics), the breeze at dawn, The Moon (Crystal Filled with Despair), faster than a howling wind (natsu's theme), The Stage is Set and Bannou Nougu. Like usual all the demoted 5-star songs were instrumentals, while 3 of the promoted songs are vocals, thus upping my vocal content. (Vocal tends to be more emotional and thus suitable for the top tier).
I used Audacity to edit The Moon, cutting out some 15 seconds of silence in the middle of the song. A dramatic pause is fine, but not for that long. The new version was worthy of a 5-star rating even though the old version wasn't (which is why it was correctly rated lower until now).
It's a shame about all those Street Fighter songs but someone had to take the fall. A lot of the demoted Street Fighter songs also had '100 Waifus' playlist names attached so I reassigned them all to better vocal pieces -- The Moon (Crystal Filled with Despair), the breeze at dawn, Sense, - level5 -judgelight-, and Equal Romansu. I also took the chance to give Eleanor her personal theme song 'Eleanor Hume,' promoting it to 3-star and demoting Shrine of Kardis to 2-star to make room. I also gave Eugeo 'Toxic' from Gun Gale Online and Ryuutarou 'Our Song' from SAO Fractured Daydream because when possible characters should have songs from their own franchises. Our Song was promoted to 3-star to fit the rules (and because it's a good song) while Sagat Stage was demoted to 2-star to make room. Logan was given the opening theme to X-Men the Animated Series, which is the natural fit for him. It's super efficient to improve two separate playlists at the same time. I'm sure the children are also happy to be receiving more suitable personal themes, and at a perfect time since Christmas is right around the corner.
Unfortunately with the promotion of World Map Masaharu Iwata has a higher score than Jun Maeda again. I have two new Jun Maeda songs I'm hoping to include soon so maybe that will get Jun Maeda back in the lead. There's always hope.
World Map is short, and even that short part has a refrain in it, it isn't the sort of song that deserves to be 5-star, except when you listen to it and you're blown away in the first ten seconds you realize it has to be rated 5-star regardless of what you might think. It demands to be let in.
Now I've corrected all the misranked songs, but I still haven't corrected the start time, end time, and volumes to 1,525 songs, so the work continues. At least the most important work is finished now. All the details of the latest changes can be found in my good music permapost.
