Sousou no Frieren is the 10th best value-added manga:

Now that I've caught up to the current chapter release of Sousou no Frieren I can give it a definitive rating.  It wasn't #1 like anime news network said, but it was close.  It's now my 10th favorite manga of all time.  To make room I kicked out the newly-added Hanayamata, whose brief chance at glory was outshined by this much better new entry.

Sousou no Frieren has no anime, and I rate manga by their value added, which means their value above and beyond whatever anime adaption they might have.  This means Sousou no Frieren, with no anime, is rated at its full value.  Practically speaking, there's no point reading a manga when there's a decent anime adaption, so I think value added rankings are more useful and informative to the public.

Sousou no Frieren has no anime so there's a huge point to reading this series.  It's funny, it's sad, it's poignant, it's wise. . .it's beautiful and loving and true.  It's everything a story should be.

If you come in thinking this is another Goblin Slayer like story about an elf mage, dwarf warrior, human hero and human priest, you're going to have your expectations shattered quickly and thoroughly.  This is like no other story.  It's taken the framework of other works and injected its own ideas that are an improvement on everything that's come before.

I'm so grateful to have been pointed towards this work, and now I want to pass that gift on to others so that they can experience it too.  Frieren enters my fictional character hall of fame in '100 Waifus' as the daughter of Deedlit.  It makes sense since they're both elves.  Frieren replaces another famous elf, Luthien, because I prefer Frieren between the two.  There's a lot more character development of Frieren, the protagonist of an entire franchise, than there was of Luthien, a minor side character in a minor prequel to Lord of the Rings.  It's almost like Luthien was just a placeholder for Frieren's destined spot all this time.  With Sousou no Frieren's mention, I now have exactly 300 franchises represented by a fictional character in '100 Waifus.'  What a nice round number, hopefully I can keep it at this amount from here on.

Meanwhile, the Winter Olympics are underway.  I watched the opening ceremony and thought it was very pretty.  The light shows, the tasteful costumes (especially the white dresses with blue trim and white boots), the children singing, the bevy of classical music that I recognize throughout my music hall of fame.  I have absolutely nothing against China hosting the Olympics.  They're a much better country than anywhere liberalism has hold.  I'll be cheering for them and Russia to stick it to the liberals in every event.
