I still had 13 anime and visual novel songs I really wanted to squeeze into my 5-star hall of fame from my 4-star hall of fame, so I took a buzzsaw to John Williams and demoted 11 of his songs, then demoted the final two 5-star songs of Katsuhisa's to make the numbers work out.
These demoted songs weren't bad at all, I adore them, but the brutal cap of 1100 songs means I had to find room somewhere. Generally speaking anime/visual novel opening and ending themes are more epic, powerful tunes than background movie themes that tend to compromise musical quality in order to better fit what's going on on the screen at any given moment. If I must only have one, then I'm going with Aqours, Famishin and crew.
As usual the full details can be found on my Good Music permapost. Yesterday I was dissatisfied because I hadn't 'finished the job' but today I can say with melancholy finality that the anti-western purge has been completed.
Now the 5-star distribution of music is 31% anime/visual novel, 66% video game, 3% western. This is what music looks like without affirmative action. J-pop forever.
