This series is a victim of cancel culture. It was a popular light novel, adapted into a popular manga, and green-lit for an anime adaption, when some stupid scandal erupted concerning the author's mean tweets about Chinese and Koreans. That was enough to bring the whole thing down. Never mind all the fans who could care less about his opinion on Koreans, due to completely irrelevant outsiders wanting to punish the guy, we no longer get to enjoy Nidome no Jinsei. Now the entire (prematurely canceled) manga has been scanlated so this is the end of the road for the English audience too.
On the bright side, this marks another manga 'finishing,' something I thought wouldn't happen even once this entire year. I guess there's a silver lining to things being canceled, in that they then don't drag on forever.
My Dragon Ball rewatch has gotten past the first two Super movies, so now I'm ready to bite into the main series. Meanwhile my One Piece rewatch is at Punk Hazard. Both of these will extend well into 2022. It's more fun to switch back and forth between series than marathon the same franchise from start to finish, it gives you a chance to refresh and recuperate from the same old gags/plot devices/whatever, so that they almost feel new again when they reappear. This worked better when I was also rewatching Bleach, but sadly Bleach is much shorter than Dragon Ball and One Piece -- it would have helped if the new season had arrived earlier already.
Muv-Luv Alternative is getting a second season. It was tough watching the first season to its finish, and now I have to watch another 12 episodes? I dunno. Maybe if I'm desperate for something to do it would make sense.
The James Webb telescope is supposed to launch this Christmas. It would be a fitting gift to the world, a permanent increase in our knowledge of the universe and its origins. Assuming it doesn't blow up during or after launch. If everything goes well I'll be looking forward to the new discoveries, we've been relying on the 1990's Hubble way too long. I want to see progress when it comes to mankind. There isn't enough progress in any field. This telescope is one of our only bright spots. It's also about time for another moon landing.
If we're lucky, the blu-ray versions of the BanG Dream Roselia movies, the new Girls und Panzer ova, and the new Fate/Grand Order Camelot movie should all be coming out before the new year. If Girls und Panzer comes through for me, my prediction of 23 great anime for the year will be spot on.
