The Force Awakens was a lame ripoff of a New Hope. The Last Jedi was a complete waste of time. But finally the trilogy delivered with The Rise of Skywalker. Everyone is doing something sensible all movie long -- trying to reach the Sith homeworld and hit it with a Dr. Device -- err, I mean, shoot away all the death star class laser cannons attached to all the star destroyers and slay Emperor Palpatine once and for all.
Every character was useful in some way towards that goal. Even Kylo Ren as it turned out. Every scene was useful towards that goal. No wasted time playing at casinos. Finally a movie with some direction.
Also, Rey gets with the white guy instead of the black guy. I'm so relieved.
I have some complaints, but they're no worse than complaints I have with the originals. The main problem is the lack of actually moving content on the plus side. It feels like it avoided a lot of negatives but it didn't add much on the positive side. Oh well, still better than the last two. There was zero new good music, which is what I've come to expect, sadly, of this trilogy. What a wasted opportunity.
I added the movie to my must-see movie list, kicking out Matrix films 2 and 3 to make room. Matrix 2 and 3 weren't very good, I'm glad to have something else in their stead.
