The triumphant conclusion to the entire Zero prequel, volume 10 rolled in courtesy of Yen Press today. I instantly bought and consumed the product, as Akame ga Kill! is a series close to my heart. This is one of the few stories in the world depicting the government as the bad guys and violent revolution and murder as the solution via the good guys. It's one of the few stories that says yes, violence is acceptable in the service of a just cause. Yes, if your government, and your governors, are sufficiently evil, it is good to hunt them down and kill them in the dark of night. No trials, no rules, just hunt them down and butcher them in their sleep.
This is such an obviously true statement, and yet few writers have the courage to actually state it. Not so with Takahiro. He's a man among men.
I like that Akame ended up killing a cute girl former teammate for the sin of 'not getting it.' Ignorance is no excuse, if you're fighting on the side of evil then you're also a legitimate target. Of course it was also necessary self defense, but even if it weren't Akame would have pulled the trigger. That's the sort of ruthless girl she is.
Like all the previous volumes, volume 10 was a gem. In order to better grasp all the details of the manga, I'm thinking of re-reading the whole series in chronological order -- Zero volume 1 all the way to the last volume of Akame ga Kill!. However, so long as Hinowa ga Yuku! is still ongoing it seems kind of pointless. It won't be re-reading the story in full until that sequel series also ends. So maybe I'll just wait until then.
