The third arc of the Sailor Moon manga is getting its own anime rendition. It felt crazy for Sailor Moon Crystal not to continue when everyone agrees the third arc is the best in the series, and indeed that was not the case. With the third arc guaranteed now, the best part of the old anime can be smoothly replaced by the Crystal version of the same. Now there's virtually no reason to watch the old Sailor Moon anymore, because classic Sailor Moon's 4th and 5th arcs were so full of filler that they're virtually meaningless.
People should focus on watching Crystal and only Crystal. Hopefully Crystal ends up covering the remaining two arcs as well, and this time following the manga, which ostensibly is Crystal's goal and purpose for being. If it does, Sailor Moon's ranking will shoot up. But with just the third arc being animated, it's still in the same limbo world as before. The old Sailor Moon did a pretty good job covering that arc already, so the situation really doesn't improve any from before. At least it gets us one step closer to our goal, a completely animated canon version of Sailor Moon.
Good news just keeps pouring in, it seems. First Fate/Kaleid Liner, then Rewrite, now this. 2016 is looking pretty awesome. Macross Delta is probably coming out in 2016 as well. It's been in production for what feels like forever.
2016 is going to be a great year in anime. Fairy Tail, One Piece, Naruto(?), Pretty Cure, Fate/Etc, Bake-(etc)-monogatari, Code Geass, Dragon Ball, Nanoha, Utawarerumono, Shingeki no Kyojin, Steins;Gate, Tales of 'x', Durarara, Sailor Moon, Macross, Kyoukai no Rinne, Gate, Tamayura, Evangelion(?), Strike Witches(?) and Ansastu Kyoushitsu are all slated for release. 22 franchises guaranteed right off the bat.
In comparison, how many great franchises received new content in 2015? 42 shows. So if twenty more sequels are announced, or twenty new great shows are made from scratch, or some combination of the two possibilities listed above, sometime during 2016, we're on track for another great year. One of those great new shows of 2016 is going to be Rewrite. So that takes us down to just 21 shows left to go. Gambare, 2016! You can do it, 2016!
