Jamie (who goes by the alias Irene) is worthy of my fictional character hall of fame. The event dedicated to her was one of the best in the game, and it was all because of Jamie's heart of gold. A thief who lived in the alleys and stole for the other children of the alleys, she eventually finds out that her efforts saved a sick girl's life. That sick girl's name was Irene, who grew up and allowed herself to be murdered in order to catch red-handed the rest of Jamie's gang of thieves. But she gave Jamie an out: No one had ever seen Irene first-hand before, so if Jamie took on Irene's mantle, then Jamie could be counted among the dead and 'Irene' could live on and rejoin society. Jamie, touched to the core, took this opportunity to become a hero and devote herself to preventing crime from there on.
But when a Cancer was about to defeat her squad mates, she didn't hesitate to use her phantom thief skills to save them, showing she'd inherited the best of both worlds moving forward.
Jamie replaces Claus from Tales of Phantasia, a pretty forgettable character. Her theme song is Goodnight Seven Seas, also from Heaven Burns Red.
Earlier I decided Palom and Porom were too minor characters to deserve 2 wonderful fictional character slots. I think that judgment was correct, but what about Palom/Porom? Since the twins do everything together, they could like Annie/Hallie count as a single character. Then their combined worth would be sufficient to merit mention again. It's a wonder I didn't think of this before, especially when I had a precedent right in front of me.
Palom/Porom together are better than Nina (from Unicorn Overlord) alone. Nina was originally a bandit after all, and her character class is pretty common in the game and not very strong. She's as minor a character as you can get. Palom/Porom get the FF4 song 'The Final Battle,' because they do petrify themselves in a very 'final' way to save their friends.
Yuuto, who used to have 'The Final Battle,' inherits Nina's song, 'Hunter's Chance,' which also suits him fine. It's just moving from one beautiful FF battle song to another.
The insurrection in Chicago couldn't be more clearcut. The Mayor of Chicago has banished federal police from his city by executive order and instructed his police force to arrest any federal police who dare defy his new sovereign city-state. If this isn't a rebellion what exactly is? It's ridiculous that Trump continues to fiddle his thumbs when there could not be a more justified intervention in the entire history of the United States. It's my experience that Trump talks tough but always backs down and chickens out when the moment of truth arrives. It's very frustrating because his tough talk encourages you to believe that real change in America is possible, but that hope is always dashed. If he's going to be a wimp I'd rather he just say so ahead of time.
While Trump won't even protect ICE officers from a conspiracy of Antifa thugs and the local government, we learn that Biden was willing to spy on 8 Republican Senators using the FBI. They call Trump fascist for oppressing his political opponents, but Biden of course was protecting 'democracy' by siccing our spy agencies on his political opposition in a co-equal branch of government. Biden can get away with anything, Trump can't do anything. The media and judges agree. The American people didn't agree and elected Trump with an overwhelming electoral college majority, but what do we matter? This country belongs to the media and judges, didn't you know?
When Trump was campaigning, he said he was against authorizing long range missile strikes into Russia. Now he says he's for giving long range Tomahawk missiles to Ukraine. Yet again he says one thing and does another. His presidency is a long string of disappointments. But Tomahawks or not, Russia is still winning the war. Large portions of Kupiansk and Pokrovsk are overrun by Russian forces, and they've also reached the outer limits of Siversk. Once those three crucial cities fall it will become child's play to roll up the rest of the territory Russia lays claim to.
Russia has also made steady progress in Volchansk, entered Konstantinyvka, Yampil and Uspenivka, and shored up their breakthrough north of Pokrovsk by recapturing Novotoretsk. It's good news across the entire front.
The hypocrisy is rank within the west when it comes to Georgia. Recall that when Republicans did an election protest that broke into the Capitol Building, it was instantly described as a coup attempt and thousands of people were arrested/jailed for long terms due to this 'assault on democracy,' which was the worst since 'the Civil War.' Never mind that there were so many federal operatives in the crowd of that riot that it's hard to know who was an actual protestor at the event and who was just pretending to be in order to discredit Republicans. But when the exact same thing happens in Georgia, and a protest breaks into their seat of government, it's celebrated as an attempt to 'restore democracy' to the country. There is no evidence whatsoever that the ruling party of Georgia stole their election, but even if there were, we were taught by all the sage heads in America that evidence of election theft is not a sufficient basis to overthrow the government, or even legally challenge the election result's certification via Congress. That only the worst people ever would ever think that or act on that. That we must respect the decisions of the courts and the certifications of the state governments come hell or high water. So why aren't the Georgian protestors denounced in the same manner? Where are all the sage heads now? It's complete radio silence.
The truth is nobody in the west cares about democracy. If an election goes the wrong way, like in Romania, the courts simply throw out the election results and then ban the winning candidate from running again. Or if they can't do that, because the courts side with the anti-West side, they engineer a coup attempt like in Georgia. Remember that this all started in 2014 when the freely and fairly elected President of Ukraine was overthrown by violent protestors. Every official source and body admits Yanukovych won fair and square, but that wasn't good enough for the west. Since he wasn't 'their guy,' they funded protestors and our intelligence agencies worked with them until they got the desired result, his ouster, by hook or by crook. What makes this coup all the more flagrant is that Yanukovych had, only the day before, agreed to early elections which could have resolved who was in the right through legitimate, non-violent means in a matter of weeks/months. But the West didn't want a non-violent, fair resolution to the protests. They didn't want democracy. They didn't want elections. They wanted to install their far-right Nazi coup government, so that's what they did.
This government shutdown is another instance of democracy being supplanted by nondemocratic processes. It's ridiculous that the majority can't rule after winning an election. Instead the minority can shut down government at any time by filibustering the budget. So the minority can say 'even though we lost the election, the budget must adhere to our wishes or we'll just burn the whole country down.' Which effectively lets the people who care least about America get to rule it. No other country on Earth has this filibuster rule. No other country on Earth would dream of such a dysfunctional process, where you have the majority but you still can't pass any bills in Congress.
To make matters more undemocratic, when the winners of the election pass bills or issue executive orders that conform with the majority will, random judges strike everything down and require the Biden status quo to stay in force. But, we were told, don't worry because those rulings will eventually reach the Supreme Court, where justice will finally be done, and the democratic will can have its say. Even this daydream is now dead, because we've now witnessed a local judge make a ruling about Venezuelan deportees, have his ruling overruled by the Supreme Court, and then make the exact same ruling again, overruling the Supreme Court, and guaranteeing the rights of Venezuelans to not be deported after all. So now local judges have the power to overrule Supreme Court decisions, and there is no justice to be found anywhere. Laughably, the local judge's overruling of the Supreme Court is now back before the Supreme Court, but what does it matter? Let's say the Supreme Court yet again says the local judge is in the wrong -- what is to stop this clown from overruling that ruling? He's already overruled the Supreme Court once and gotten away with it, so when does the infinite loop stop spinning round and round? The only proper solution to this judge's ruling was to have him impeached for completely ignoring the Constitution, which clearly states that the last word in any court case is the Supreme Court. To bring his ruling back before the Supreme Court is already a complete abdication of the Constitution.
Republicans accepted the rule of Joe Biden. Judges didn't rule everything he did illegal. We didn't filibuster every budget and bill and confirmation. We didn't create 'federal government free zones' where we got to ignore his officers or arrest them or kill them. We observed the rules of the game, when you lose the election you lose and they win. They got to rule, unimpeded, for the next four years. But when we win the election no such grace is extended to us. Suddenly the rules change, and it turns out winning the election doesn't allow you to do anything. Suddenly we have no power at all and it turns out the governing authority was in another castle, somewhere, anywhere, Democrats still have control. This double standard effectively means America is controlled by a one-party state, the Democrats, no matter how many elections we win. (And yes, Republicans have won the vast majority of elections in the recent past, much good it has done us.) It's amazing how much my fellow Republicans will put up with. You would think at some point they would wake up and say, 'Hey, wait, what we wanted was a democracy, not a 'rules-based order' that says Democrats rule no matter how voters vote.' But no, they'll slavishly let Democrats run everything regardless of who wins elections. They'll bow down and take their whipping whether they win or lose. It's no wonder Democrats despise us. You don't gain respect by groveling in the dirt and thanking people when they piss on you. It's to the point that Democrats can attempt to assassinate the Republican Presidential candidate twice with no repercussion. So when Democrats lose elections or are about to lose elections, they can even straight out kill their opponents and that's also fine. That's true democracy for you.
A Democrat judge recently ruled that attempting to assassinate multiple Republican Supreme Court justices in order to shift the balance of the court to Democrats is basically fine, by sentencing the attempted assassin to only 7 years in jail. People are sentenced to longer jail terms than that for filing paperwork incorrectly or hurting dogs. Overturning our democracy by straight out killing the political opposition? Eh, what's the big deal?
Democrats will keep getting bolder and bolder, doing more and more undemocratic things, so long as there's no penalty for doing so. This is working out for them, so why would they stop? They'll do whatever it takes to maintain power in America, just like they'll do whatever it takes to maintain power in Romania, Georgia or Ukraine. At some point the problem isn't the power-hungry psychopaths, it's the pussies who do nothing to stop them. The pussies who refuse to stand up for fair play. If a pussy is trampled over, was an injustice actually done? If a tree falls in a forest but nobody hears it, did it make a sound? At some point you have to wonder.
