Kakkou no Iinazuke read:

The anime ended on a cliffhanger, so I decided to read the manga to find out what happens next.  The art of the manga is amazing, somehow even better than the anime.  But I was also slightly impressed by the plot and characters.  For hundreds of chapters the manga keeps stirring up lovey-dovey moments with all four of the prospective girlfriends.  I've been rooting for Sachi all this time, but I've grown to like Erika too.  I wouldn't mind if she won in the end.

I also like that the author allows other boys in the series to be good looking, accomplished, nice and caring towards the four heroines.  The girls aren't with the guy because he's infinitely better than everyone else, like what you'd see in an isekai novel, but because they've come to trust him through long acquaintance.  And once you've landed upon a trustworthy boy, it doesn't matter how many additional nice guys like you, because they're no longer needed in a girl's life.  The four heroines who all love Nagi all really love Nagi.  Not like a fad, like, 'wow he's the hottest kid in town.'  Like someone who will be faithful to you all the way to the grave.

At the same time, since Nagi refuses to commit to any of the girls, the girls also don't burn their bridges around other boys.  They basically just defer questions of import to a better time once Nagi has made his decision.  And that's reasonable and makes me like them more, as more human and realistic characters.

The truth is every girl in the series has a prospective nice boyfriend who isn't Nagi, so if Nagi turns them down it isn't like their life will be ruined.  Ai doesn't have a nice boy other than Nagi, but she is a famous singer so it's not like her prospects are bad if she went looking.  It's kind of refreshing to have a love story where almost everyone isn't doomed to misery.

Obviously this is a long-running series with no end in sight.  The work is popular so I'm sure the author would like to serialize it for as long as possible.  But surprisingly every chapter does feel important and interesting.  I suppose a story can be as long as it wants when each individual part is still that good.

With all that said, Erika and Sachi have entered my wonderful characters hall of fame.  They take the place of Pan and Mio (from Nichijou.)  Pan is just a baby and after watching the first ep of City I realized I must have been crazy to like anything by its author, so I've wanted to stop honoring Nichijou ever since.  Erika and Sachi are so beautiful they could almost get in on looks alone.

I also promoted Wish for You, the opening theme to Koujo Denka no Kateikyoushi, to 5-star, demoting Roses and Wine to make room.  Another case of a vocal replacing an instrumental.

I watched Andor S2, continuously waiting for when it would get good like all the critics said it was.  But it was crap from beginning to end.  The whole story could have been told in 1/4 the time.  Most of the characters were annoying.  Half the time I was rooting for the Empire the Rebels were being so stupid.  It's a shame because I really liked season 1 and the Rogue One movie.  But they really dropped the ball with this sequence.  All that's left is The Last of Us S2 and I'll be all caught up on western media.
