The final volume of Twelve Kingdoms is mostly translated -- all but the final part is now available over at https://www.eugenewoodbury.com/moon/book4/moon4_01.htm
Twelve Kingdoms is in my authorial rankings so I'm duty-bound to read it, but it's been tough slogging. I'm around 2/3 of the way through the book and so far the villain Asen is winning handily. I don't know how the good guys are going to overcome with what little time is left in the novel. Plus there are so many names of people I don't recognize and seem exactly the same as each other, it's an overcomplicated story.
All the same this is an important milestone. Once it's actually translated the entire Twelve Kingdoms series will be completed. Another franchise I never need worry about again.
Meanwhile I finished rewatching Kami-tachi and Isekai Nonbiri Nouka, so I was able to adjust my rankings with all the new insights garnered. Nonbiri Nouka moved up to #157, which is pretty good for a 12 episode incomplete series. With constraints like that you can't get much further. Kami-tachi, meanwhile, fell back down to #185, due to how awful the second season was. I almost feel like it was worse than nothing. A bitter disappointment after how promising the first season was. The art and animation dropped to near zero, and the plot was about the most pointless, inane topics like setting up a food stall for a festival. It's like watching paint dry.
The Eminence in Shadow dropped down to #143 because the first season wasn't that appealing but at least they announced a second season which should include some better arcs. Isekai series in general were demoted, with Youjo Senki, Ken Tensei, Kuma and KonoSuba all going down to #113, #114, #115 and #116 respectively. The genre has two problems -- it never receives enough episodes to fully tell the story and the story is never high enough stakes to actually prick your emotions. No Game No Life would also fall into this trap except that the prequel movie wasn't actually an isekai, but a movie about the real people living on that alternate world, who didn't have any cheats they could rely on but had to die fighting against overwhelming odds. Because of that it earned a relatively higher ranking of #94.
Due to how good the latest season of DanMachi was it moved up to #47. Basilisk also moved up to #50, while other shows were demoted to make room. Yama no Susume got a little bump receiving the gratifying rank of #100. Due to the announcement of Atelier Ryza, the Atelier franchise went up to #156. Let's hope the new season justifies its new ranking.
Minor changes occurred all over. All details can be found in my top anime rankings permapost.
I've been waiting patiently for the new Fire Emblem Engage content to come out so I can try out the new enchanter and mage cannoneer classes. Once the new classes arrive I can resume my pursuit of victory on maddening difficulty. It shouldn't be long now.
Congratulations to UConn winning this whacky NCAA men's basketball tournament. Better them than San Diego State at least.
