After watching 'The Suicide Squad' I decided it was a better version of the same story than 'Suicide Squad.' Fighting a giant starfish is way cooler than an evil witch. Harlequin was more of a badass in this movie than the previous one, her fighting was so graceful and efficient, like watching a Seed from Gundam in action. Bloodsport was cooler than Bullseye, I like his conversation with his daughter about the wisdom of stealing a smart watch which you can watch tv on. Basically everything about this movie was funnier, prettier, and more exciting. I'm all for remakes when they're this much improved. As a result I added 'The Suicide Squad' into my great movie rankings in place of 'Suicide Squad' which used to be there. There can only be one after all.
I also liked 'The Peacemaker' tv series, a spinoff of the movie, despite it being ludicrously liberal. The core of the story isn't making snide jabs at climate deniers or white supremacists, it's about a team of misfits coming together and getting an important job done, proving that maybe society should have valued them more because they did, after all, just save the world. As an extension it implies that a lot of other people who have been dismissed as losers by society might have something worthwhile to contribute too if people weren't so dismissive towards them.
I also watched 'The Batman.' It's okay. Batman goes around beating up anarchists and gangsters and mafia men, instead of supervillains, because the movie is too serious for the silly supervillains Batman is always fighting. It takes three hours for Batman to discover his father worked with the mafia, which is the core of the murder mystery this story circles around. But there's nothing new here, nothing special, nothing to recommend the movie. It's like watching yet another football game between Louisville and Kentucky as opposed to a national championship.
On the 12th there's one more episode of 'The Last of Us,' and then I'm afraid all the good content of HBO Max will be used up. It was nice while it lasted though. Three tv shows and three movies? Not bad.
The two new Fire Emblem Engage emblems that were released in wave three of the DLC are strong in a complicated-to-use sort of way. Soren and Hector from the second wave of DLC are stronger, but these are certainly fun to work with. The item well that can cough up weapons and staves that can't be bought in the store is also a good new feature. I still have lots of support conversations I need to unlock through endless more skirmishes, but at least I've beaten all the tempest trials at max difficulty. I think I'll save my attempt at maddening difficulty for when the last DLC content comes out and I can play the completed version of the game. Instead of replaying Fire Emblem immediately I would be better served playing one of my many other games waiting to be played like Octopath Traveler II.
March Madness begins in just a week.
