I hadn't noticed when this came out in October but I noticed now. This will be a great book to read while finishing up correcting the vocal/instrumental labels on my final tier of music, 1-star. Like usual music and book hobbies go together like tea and scones.
I've finished up the Motoi Sakuraba portion of the 1-star instrumentals, which is 40% of them in all, putting me on the final stretch for the project as a whole.
So far the volume has been great. The cover art of Ai Hinatsuru in a kimono is already a national treasure.
Meanwhile, I finished rewatching every great anime left in my rankings, including the episodes that came out yesterday for Hero Academy, Utawarerumono and Spy x Family. I'm caught up on everything. All 200 series in my top anime rankings, and even all the anime franchises in my top movies section. Everything, everything has been watched and rewatched in full. We're talking over 9,000 episodes/movies here. Watching all that, twice no less, is years of effort. But it's all worth it, because there's no truer testament to something's worth than enduring love. All of these series have passed the test of time. Anything looks good when it's novel, but once you're at the second time around only true gems remain. Of course, I've read '100 Waifus' 34 times now, so my top 200 anime rankings have a ways to go to match that level of enduring love, but twice is still a lot when you're talking nearly 10,000 eps.
And honestly, a lot of these series I've watched thrice, four times, ten times. . . But I don't ask that much of a show to be great. Twice is sufficient for most mere mortals. I'm not going to up the polevault height just because I cleared the current standard. The current standard is plenty. If I can watch an anime twice and still love it the second time through then it really is great. Unlike Hatena Illusion, or Cue!, or Idoly Pride or suchlike I watched the first time and thought was great, everything in my rankings has now been watched twice and I'm sure it's great.
I reached this landmark last year as well, but it slipped away again as new episodes were released. This time I won't let the achievement slip away. I'll keep rewatching everything as it comes out until at least Eminence in Shadow is fully released, so that I can say every series has had at least its first season proven to be great and thus couldn't possibly fall out of my rankings from here. No more Hatena Illusion like mistakes will be permitted in these fair rankings.
