Improving the 1-star music hall of fame:

My next musical project is identifying and replacing the bad music in my 1-star music tier.  Previously I was cutting the longest music regardless of its quality, but that kind of blind shooting strategy doesn't do my hall of fame justice.

It doesn't much matter if you're rated 3-star or 2-star, but when we're talking getting kicked out of the hall of fame entirely songs should be eliminated or kept based on merit, not arbitrary measures like length.  So the first thing I need to do is draw up a list of all the songs that deserve to be eliminated based on merit from my 1-star hall of fame.  The next step was to reinstate the good songs that were cut only due to their length in the place of these actually deserving to be cut songs.

The list of songs deserving to be cut eventually overtook in number the songs deserving to be reinstated, so this process has now come to a halt, but not until I saved some 20 or so songs from ignominy.  Girl rock profited most from this process, including Bjork, Vanessa Carlton, Loreena McKennit and Tori Amos, but Enigma and Beethoven also benefited.  For those interested in the specific details my music hall of fame permapost is always kept up to date.

I can't reinstate any more songs, but I still need to keep a list of songs deserving of demotion so that any future time I come across good new music I can only cut truly bad songs to fit the new music in.  I'd say I'm about 1/5 of the way through making that list, which involves carefully listening to every song in the 1-star tier and deciding if I would really miss it if it were gone for good.

I listened to Yasunori Mitsuda's Astria Ascending songs but decided none of them were much good, so that won't help my 1-star list any.  My next real prospect at finding good new songs is the soundtrack to Octopath Traveler II.

Meanwhile Argentina trounced Croatia as I hoped it would.  Messi is one step away from a historic World Cup trophy to crown his career.  Now I'm really cheering for Morocco to upset France and make Argentina's job that much easier in the final.

Also, Ken Tensei's final episode featured a 'to be continued,' so there will be a 2nd season of Ken Tensei, which nicely justifies its high #108 ranking.  There's no telling when said 2nd season will actually air, but I'll be happily awaiting it for as long as it takes.
