Today I watched One Piece: Film Red. The movie itself was okay. It's of course filler, but Uta has a good character design and I liked her interactions with Luffy both as kids and adults. But the movie overall doesn't matter, what matters is the opening song that kicked the movie off - New Era. This song is spectacular, and the dance that went along with it was pretty good too.
I instantly downloaded the song and added it to my 5-star hall of fame. To make room I found some sub-par instrumental songs from Legaia Duel Saga. I couldn't distinguish which of the three songs (Inaccessible Road, Already Rented, Advancing to Far Away Places) from Legaia I'd rated 5-star was worse so I just demoted all three. Then I added two more songs to 5-star from my 4-star tier to make it all balance out again. The two other lucky beneficiaries are Pastel Pure, the opening theme to Maria-sama ga Miteru, and The Voice of No Name, the 2nd opening theme to AKB0048.
Legaia Duel Saga has the demerit of my never having played the game, so I have no positive memories associated with it. On the other hand all three of these anime songs are from series I know and love, so it's full of positive associations. The 'moving and memorable' aspects kick in full throttle.
The second opening to Haganai, 'Be my friend,' is so memorable that not only did I have it written out and sung in '100 Waifus,' the original author also wrote it out and sung it in the Haganai book series. A song that makes that strong an impression should be 5-star, even if it is a little wacky. To make room for it I demoted 'Dragonship Destiny,' from Lunar 2. It's not memorable at all, so a good trade.
I still have hundreds of additional game songs to judge, so perhaps some more anime music can get promoted before the storm is through.
