I bought both of these products today and they both felt incomplete.
For Haganai, everything that happened was perfectly reasonable. Kodaka turned down multiple girls' confessions and focused on studying in his third year for college entrance exams. He also made sure Kobato was studying hard for her high school entrance exams. Apparently Kobato isn't a genius like most of the neighbors' club so she genuinely needed to settle down and get to work. He's continuing his policy of getting along equally with everyone, sort of a Kodaka trademark at this point.
There were also some tangential side stories about various side characters who don't matter. It turns out Kobato and Kodaka's mother was also chuunibyou when she was younger. She was gorgeous too! But of course Kobato is the perfect being and not even her mother can compete.
But nothing in this volume matters. It's good that they're settling down and chasing their dreams or whatever, but what I want to know is who Kodaka chooses in the end. Of course I think it should be Kobato, which is what happens in '100 Waifus,' but any choice is reasonable. I suppose even nobody is a reasonable option at this point, or everybody. I just want the author to make a decision already. Stop teasing us with various ships and put his foot down. Who will it be? The answer can only be found in the next volume, which is the last volume, so I guess I'll have to buy it too.
As for Dune, this isn't a movie, it's half a movie. It faithfully follows the book, except for randomly inserting blacks everywhere. (why must blacks be everywhere?) The graphics are great. I don't like the cinematography. The only reason the movie was so long is because of all the long dramatic pauses, repetitive future visions, slow motion camera pans, and ominous music. Speed everything up to real-time and they could have fit in the rest of the actual plot. It's really stupid. It's like how they drag out One Piece and only cover 1/2 a chapter of the manga per episode. You could do much better than that if you wanted. Duncan Idaho was a badass, killing people left and right. Jessica was awful, breaking down and crying over every little thing, scared of her own shadow. You call that a Bene Gesserit? These people were supposed to have trained their bodies and minds to have complete self control. I saw nothing of that for the entire movie. Admittedly she was pregnant so maybe that was causing mood swings, I hear that happens, but still, you'd think a Bene Gesserit would be above such issues.
But the biggest problem with the movie is the bad guys won and the Atreides have been reduced to Paul, his mom and his little sister. I want to see the second half of this story where he returns in triumph and takes down the entire evil empire with his fremen legions. They'd better announce a sequel, I contributed my $15 to the cause so they'll have no excuses. If Dune Part 2 is made I'll probably rate the combined work as one great movie, but until then it's not worth getting excited over.
