I gave this anime plenty of opportunity to impress, but it stuck with a boring situation and a boring protagonist who never tries hard and grumbles about everything. He's the last person you'd ever want to be the focus of a story, which is why the story is so drearily dull.
I should have known from the beginning that any show pretentious enough to try and be 'artsy' would have a terrible plot, because that's how these things always go.
Love Live! Superstar is back so the summer anime is still 20 watchable shows. One week from now Pirate Princess airs, the last new show of the summer season, so I'll be able to present a definitive listing of the current anime situation then.
Meanwhile, I combed through the entirety of '100 Waifus' for the word 'just' and tried to eliminate or replace it as often as possible. I may have succeeded in 200 fewer 'justs' than before in this manner, but they're still everywhere. At least the worst of them will be gone, making the remainder more bearable. I've actually read up to Chapter 24, but I got tired of having to interrupt my reading to edit out a 'just' every page, so I skipped ahead and did all the editing first. Now maybe I can read the rest of the story in peace. If I have to stop and edit something, I want it to be something substantial, based on the new knowledge I gained, not these abominable 'justs.'
Whenever the word 'just' is not used, the writing is brilliant. The book is as great as I remember, it's only this one thing that sticks out.
Shikkakumon airs this January. I can't wait to replace another of my short series with this serious-sized great anime. This and Eminence in Shadow are guaranteed entries.
