Imouto Sae Ireba Ii volume 7 read:

Thank God for a good book.  It's been so long.  This story continues from strength to strength.  Imouto Sae Ireba Ii is a vulgar comedy, so with trepidation I feared the 'vulgar' part would be censored out starting this volume, but instead it dived straight in fearlessly.  Now that Itsuki and Nayuta are a couple they have sex.  Who would have guessed?  Every other light novel series in Japan studiously finds some way to delay or divert it, but here they just do it, like you'd expect from real life.  Bravo!

The comedy aspect is also going strong.  There were several times the book made me burst out laughing.  The copyright violation bonanza at the end was great, but it wasn't just then.  Chihiro's sadistic torture of the vacuum robot was just as great.  Other times I can't remember anymore too.

There's a bit of a sad side story towards the end about an author who finds herself beloved by fans and a commercial best-seller and yet still mocked by endless haters who probably didn't even read the books.  (Reminds me of SAO, where the author is clear and away brilliant and yet still relentlessly mocked while others with no success to speak of are held up as 'true art' or whatever) She dies aged 31 of cancer amid jeering and catcalls by nobodies who couldn't lick her boots.  It's really infuriating when you think about it.  This is what happens when you intentionally bring down all hierarchies.  No respect for the sacred means there's nothing sacred left in life.  And a life without anything sacred in it to value has only material goods to look forward to -- the next dose of drugs, the next meal, the next orgasm.  Good going, folks.  You really stuck it to the Man.

I read the book from the moment I could all the way to the ending in one go.  Worth every penny.

Meanwhile, Honzuki's anime ended without a sequel announced, so it went back on my anime wishlist.  I doubt it will ever actually happen, though.  If Death March with its mega-millions of readers couldn't get a sequel why should Honzuki?

Speaking of modernity's lack of respect for esteemed personages, Andrew Jackson's statue was nearly toppled within eyesight of the White House.  Obviously within gunshot range, probably within rock throwing range.  Where the hell are the police and why aren't they protecting such sensitive areas from trespassing?  Today it's the statue, tomorrow, what, they'll burn down the White House itself and kill everyone in it?  Is there any protection at all?

It's not enough that the protesters were eventually repulsed.  They never should have reached that far in the first place.  They could have easily carried guns with them and stormed the White House itself if they had wanted, before any response was made.  It was just luck that wasn't their aim this time around.  Absolutely feckless.

The only person in America standing up to these rioters is Tucker Carlson.  Where are the police?  The military?  Why haven't all these people been rounded up and put in jail where they belong?  Since they are actually committing a crime, called vandalism, right in front of the video cameras.  Or is there just no law code in this country anymore?

Without moral conviction a trillion dollar military is utterly worthless.  If we don't have the moral conviction to use our arms to enforce the law then why waste a trillion dollars equipping the army every year?  That could go to a citizen's dividend and give people real benefits like food and housing.  The police and the military should be disbanded and the money redistributed evenly to all Americans.  Since they don't want to do their job anyway, why keep paying them?

Of course, the police and the military have plenty of moral conviction and willingness to deploy weapons when it comes to right-wing extremists.  All trillion of those dollars will come smashing down on you like a pile of bricks if you so much as look at a black wrong.  And the truth is they're being paid for that job, and only that job, to suppress the right wing of this country.  And everyone but right-wing extremists are quite content with this setup and laugh in ridicule at anyone who still naively believes the police and the military exist to serve any other role -- like, say, their actually publicly announced roles that they're supposedly doing on paper.

Right wing extremists need our own country where we can fund our own police and military to enforce our own laws.  Otherwise we're just feeding the beast that's currently mauling us.  It's madness to continue living within this two-tiered, Animal Farm like 'some are more equal than others' system.
