This was a movie Japan got to see in 2018, but now we can enjoy in early 2019. This is one of the reasons 2018 was a flimsy year in anime -- so many movies that are only coming out now.
It was a perfect movie, capturing the essence of Non Non Biyori -- this time living out in the countryside of Okinawa, a tropical beach, as opposed to the northern mountainous snowy countryside Non Non Biyori usually deals with. Getting to enjoy all sorts of different rural environments expands on the initial premise without breaking it.
It also has a strong theme of people's bonds making trivial experiences emotionally meaningful and fulfilling. Love really does quicken the soul.
In the end, though, it's just people taking a vacation. Obviously nothing happens. Nothing ever happens in this show. And it's only a short film. Compared to a tv season of anime it's just a trifle. But it made every minute of its airtime as valuable as it could, for that I commend them.
