Winter 2019 Anime First Impressions: Part 1

Boogiepop wa Warawanai:  I'm not a big fan of murder mysteries, much less surrealistic murder mysteries.  It seems well executed for people who are into that sort of thing.  Fail.

Egao no Daika:  I like the hero and heroine, plus the setting is pretty.  Now if only the plot would also be good we could have a real winner on our hands.  This series has a lot of promise.  Pass.

Tate no Yuusha no Nariagari:  I'm loving it.  Tate no Yuusha shows us the depravity and falseness of all women, how they use Kavanaugh like sexual assault accusations to take whatever they want from innocent trusting men who have done absolutely nothing wrong, and how the only proper way to deal with women is to purchase them as slaves with curse contracts in case of betrayal.  Yes, this is the only proper interface between men and women -- master and slave.  Anything else just leaves you penniless and alone, just like our Shield Hero after he tried to deal fairly by his woman.  Enslave them all.  Pass.

Dorororo:  I knew this series would be bad just from the description, but I didn't want to be prejudiced so I went ahead and watched the first episode.  It was grotesque and championed immorality, so as usual prejudice prevails.  Fail.

Pastel Memories:  The initial idea behind this series wasn't bad, but the execution was.  Too many characters, a bad art style (especially the breasts were so ugly, ugh), combined with molasses-slow pacing meant there was never any hope for this show.  Fail.

Watashi ni Tenshi ga Maiorita:  A hopelessly perverted girl, a violent girl, and a cute girl get together and hilarity ensues.  It's a bad plot relying on bad characters so the humor falls through.  Fail.

Kemurikusa:  The sci fi dystopia where practically everyone is dead or dying.  There's no hope, no supplies, no chance at reproduction, so no real point in talking about anything anymore.  A world like this needs to just hurry up and end.  Fail.

Yakusoku no Neverland:  I tried this manga long ago and wasn't impressed.  Plus I knew a series this popular was bound to get an anime eventually anyway, so there was no point reading it.  Well now the anime has arrived, and it was pretty good.  Obviously all the extra motion, color, voice acting and music added value to the work and now it's ready for viewing.  Let's just see how things turn out for a while.  Pass.

Circlet Princess:  I suppose the girls are attractive, but that's about it.  The fighting doesn't seem fun, so there's no way it can be the main attraction of the series.  But there's nothing else interesting about the characters or the setting either.  They should have taken a hint from Uma Musume, which pulled off a fictional sport so well.  Or Aokana -- or Angelic Layer, which they're blatantly ripping off.  Anything but what they ended up making.  Fail.

Girly Air Force:  The boy is an unnecessary addition to the story who seems to have no legitimate role in the story, and the 'anima' who pilot the planes are even more tacked-on.  In fact, it doesn't feel like a single character in the story should exist.  It would have worked better if it were just planes vs. aliens.  Fail.

Go Toubun no Hanayome:  People being rude or pushy or violent to each other isn't funny, it's just disgusting.  Fail.

There's still a lot more shows left to premiere which will be handled with a Part 2.  Three successes will do for now.
