The isekai web-novel-turned-manga trend continues. This time it was Growth Cheat and Being able to Edit skills. It's the same premise every time -- you get summoned to a fantasy world with swords and sorcery, are given a broken power advantage over the natives, meet some hot girls and impress them with your power, and off you go.
Each manga has its own humorous quirks to it though, so it doesn't get old. I can see why this genre is so popular that it has practically displaced all other subjects. But I feel like they all have a hard ceiling. They're all strictly inferior to Death March and thus, in a sense, superfluous. The only reason I'm stuck reading them is that I'm already all caught up on Death March so I have no other choice.
I feel like real mangaka and light novel authors will never lose to these web novel isekai stories, because they understand that it's the complexity of your characters that make stories interesting, not the ease with which they land hot women. Dostoevsky and Dickens these are not.
Only Honzuki no Gekokujo has a unique and interesting premise that doesn't overlap with Death March. That's why Honzuki is on my anime wishlist but none of these other stories are.
