Chapters 374-568?

Hayate no Gotoku is one of the longest manga around, so it's no surprise it wasn't animated in full.  What's more frustrating is all the anime episodes and movies they made that were 'original stories' instead of additional adaptions of the manga.  If they had just stuck to the manga they could have covered a lot more, but they adamantly refused to do so and insisted on making a bunch of comparative junk instead.  Filler is obviously just filler, but the original stories by Hata Kenjirou aren't exactly filler, they're just annoying anyway.

If you subtract all the filler, Hayate no Gotoku is only 85 episodes/movies long.  But if you take out the 'original stories' too, it's only 72 episodes long.  Good luck adapting 568 manga chapters in 72 episodes.

This is the main reason Hayate no Gotoku is only ranked 31st.  With so much filler thrown in the average is dragged down, even though the manga is nigh-perfect.

But the second reason Hayate's anime is sub-par is the crazy timeline issues.  Every single season just jumps around randomly, when all they had to do was follow the chronological order of the manga.  Would that have been too much to ask?  Why does it become some sort of avant-garde acid trip?

Even within single episodes, you can jump hundreds of chapters, like Ova B.  Everything is haphazard and random, thrown together with no sense of the timeline or concern for cause and effect.  The effect is dizzying.  It makes Monogatari look simple.  This guide is meant to help people clear up that confusion and understand just exactly what the anime is doing.

It's also a way to read the manga while also watching the anime.  Anime is better than manga so there's no point reading the adapted chapters.  However, that still leaves all the unadapted chapters that need reading, so people need to know which chapters those are.  By following this guide, people can enjoy both the anime and the manga.
