This is a great teachable moment for the right. Here you have a deeply committed anti-racist, who loves Israel. A libertarian, who doesn't concern himself with any ethnic issues whatsoever, but he's still an anti-semite according to the left. Why? Listen to this impeccable logic:
It's become clear to me that the Fox commentator Glenn Beck has something of a Jewish problem. Actually, he has something of a modernity problem, and people with modernity problems tend to have problems with Jews, who more or less invented modernity (Einstein, Marx, Freud, Franz Boas, etc.)
... This is a post about Beck's recent naming of nine people -- eight of them Jews -- as enemies of America and humanity. He calls these people prime contributors to the -- wait for it -- "era of the big lie." The eight Jews are Sigmund Freud; Edward Bernays, the founder of public relations, and a nephew of Freud's (which Beck discloses as if this had previously been a secret); Soros, of course; Cass Sunstein, now of the White House; the former labor leader Andy Stern; Walter Lippman, who is no longer here to defend himself; Frances Fox Piven, who Beck believes is "sowing the seeds" of revolution; and, of all people, Edward Rendell.
So if you oppose modernity, you oppose jewish thinking. And if you oppose jewish thinking, you must hate jews. If you hate jews, it must be because you're prejudiced and biased against jews. If you're prejudiced and biased against jews, you're an anti-semite.
Here's what actually happened. Glenn Beck is a libertarian, so he seized on a bunch of liberal, communist thinkers and called them a bunch of liars and an enemy of mankind. Communism's track record has proven they are one of the most evil ideologies to ever walk the Earth, and that none of the Communist's promises about a utopian society come true. It is rather indisputable that Communists are evil liars. So Glenn Beck reaches into this grab bag and condemns a lot of soft targets, easily condemnable people with a long track record of pushing destructive, dishonest ideas, and considers his work done for the day.
Then Mr. Goldberg, the Jew, with his jewish paranoia pinging like crazy, realizes that eight of the nine people being condemned are jews. He immediately throws out the idea that Glenn Beck may have been condemning these individuals on the basis of their ideas, and instead immediately jumps to the conclusion that Glenn Beck must hate them on the basis of their ethnicity instead. Then he manages to completely turn the question around from what it should be: "Why are so many evil liars jews?" to "Why is Glenn Beck being allowed to spread this anti-semitic venom?"
Mr. Goldberg is right, anyone who opposes modernity, as defined by 'Freud, Marx, and Boas,' is opposing jews. Apparently opposing jews, in and of itself, is a sin. If you ever disagree with a jew, you are supposed to give way. The regular rules of scholarly debate and logic go out the window. No one is allowed to disagree with a jew. Much less multiple jews. If a sizable majority of jews agree about something, no one else is allowed to disagree with them. That would be anti-semitism. If the majority of your ideological enemies are jewish, you should just crawl into a hole somewhere and die.
It doesn't matter if you disagree with these jews not because they are jews, but because they are wrong. It doesn't matter that you don't care whatsoever about their ethnicity, but only their arguments. Nothing matters. You're automatically an anti-semite who wants to gas six million jews if you are not a Freudian-Marxist-Boasian true believer. Never mind that all three people are notorious liars with no scientific evidence backing up their claims. It's a stereotype that jews are liars. Therefore calling specific jews liars just shows how prejudiced you are, for buying into and promulgating that awful slanderous stereotype. You are not allowed to call jews liars because that's the same thing Hitler said. Henceforth, no matter what jews say, everything they say must be treated as holy writ, or you're Hitler and you want another Holocaust.
Glenn Beck doesn't seem to understand this message yet, but the longer he looks into these issues, the longer a deep moral chasm is going to open up in front of him. At some point he will have to tell the truth: "I don't hate all jews, but I do hate what the vast majority of jews have created, empowered, and supported for the last 100 years. I hate that jews are currently keeping these awful destructive lies alive, and I hate that jews stifle debate by waving around the anti-semite flag whenever I try to confront these evil lies. If jews would ever cease their destructive actions, I could stop naming these destructive, lying jews on my television and radio show. Until then, since I want to protect the world from the forces of 'modernity,' I will not apologize for, retreat from, or surrender one inch of my ideological ground."
Or else he can apologize, retreat, and surrender to the slur of anti-semitism, and become another irrelevant voice in the wilderness, repeating the same platitudes, completely ineffectual against the juggernaut of liberal thought that continues to relentlessly reorder society every passing day. Glenn Beck is a powerful person, well liked and trusted by a large audience. If he said he wasn't an anti-semite, nor is it anti-semitism to disagree with jewish thinkers, then he could free up debate on the most important topics of the age. Let's see if Beck really is a freedom fighter, a patriot, a courageous speaker of truth to power. Now's the chance, Beck. Put up or shut up.
