Today I thoroughly trounced Fire Emblem, the Verdant Wind arc on maddening classic difficulty. Now I have two of each powerful battalion -- Immortal Corps, Supreme Armored Corps, King of Lions Corps -- as well as 4 Opera Singer battalions. Concentrating on pure power -- Gremories and War Masters -- worked well. My units were slow, but they could cast lots of Rescue and Warp spells, which meant they still managed to zip around the battlefield as though they were fast.
I made Hilda a Great Knight this time and she actually maxed out her defense stat. The game wouldn't let me buff her defense any further. She and Byleth (who amazingly reached 100 Hp) worked together to tank the last stage while the mages and archers wreaked their havoc from the rear like modern day artillery.
At the same time I purchased and digitally downloaded Live A Live's Switch Remaster for $50. Now I can continue playing the Switch without interruption. And in a week, if I can somehow beat Live A Live that quickly, there's nothing to fear, because Xenoblade Chronicles 3 comes out. The Switch has a nonstop stream of good games to play.
In other good news, Guyver's manga translation has resumed. That's a surprise after a decade or so of no progress. Humorously, it happened right after my post saying it's always possible Guyver could start being translated again in my thorough review of what great manga is currently ongoing. One Piece has also returned from its hiatus so manga is pretty fun right now. It turns out Sabo is alive, Shanks is in Wano, Bartholomew Kuma is with the Revolutionary Army, and Vivi has gone missing. A lot of news in one chapter. Plus a Navy Admiral is finding out that Wano's warriors are no easy meat. They did fight pretty evenly with Kaido after all. Pirate Emperors are stronger than Navy Admirals, that's why the Navy has never managed to take them down. (To defeat just one Emperor, Whitebeard, the entire Navy had to work together and even then Blackbeard, another pirate, ultimately was Edward's killer.)
As for anime, DanMachi has finally aired, so the summer season is officially underway. The first episode was pretty good but mainly just a stage setter for later events. This season is nice but I can't wait for October when Ken Tensei and Eminence in Shadow start airing, thus completing my top 200 anime rankings. The other 198 series have all properly aired already, but these final two are still two months away. Only two months to go!
I've been working on my top anime rankings for even longer than my music hall of fame. A lifetime. But in two months all that work will be rewarded with a complete list of worthy long-form anime series. For the first time ever I'll be able to point to 200 anime equivalents to Game of Thrones. At the same time, new Game of Thrones and Lord of the Rings will be coming out in America. With college football and the World Cup also airing this fall, it's going to be crazy. The Switch is doing a good job covering the first three quarters of this year, but all this great tv, American and Japanese, is set to take over for the last quarter.
