Extreme Hearts: This is definitely a good story, but is it great? It's very pretty and the characters are relatable -- talented people who nevertheless aren't afforded any respect by society. They get a second chance in this sports tournament between aspiring idols. But it has to do a lot in only 12 episodes, introducing five girls, having them beat a bunch of opponents in a bunch of different sports, and achieving all their long-sought dreams. It seems a little overambitious, especially when you also have to introduce this totally different world from the Earth we live in. We'll see. Pass.
Black Summoner: This story is dull and superfluous. It's an unoriginal isekai world with an unoriginal plot, but with worse budget and characters. Yet again people would be better served watching Death March, Slime Tensei or heck, Isekai Meikyuu de Harem wo which is airing right now. Fail.
Isekai Yakkyoku: Another overpowered reincarnation story, this time with a doctor being reincarnated in a world where he's expected to practice medicine on Renaissance era patients. I have zero respect for doctors anymore, after they first developed Covid-19 in a biolab and released it on the innocent public, then developed a deadly vaccine that kills more people than it helps and then required the whole world inoculate themselves with it, while denying all responsibility for everything. They told everyone to wear face masks when they do nothing to prevent the spread of Coronavirus but do cause all sorts of maladies in their own right while being extremely uncomfortable and delaying the development of children who need to see faces to communicate. Also they declared 'racism' a public health emergency and said it's okay to riot for George Floyd even though no one else was allowed to gather in public because of the Covid virus. These people are hacks. They don't base any of their decisions on health or science, but solely political motives. They're worthless. Medicine is a scam. They take our money but never cure anyone, actually they're developing new diseases and unleashing them on us instead of curing old ones, everyone would be better off letting their natural body heal itself and it would cost a lot less too. Doctors, lawyers and bankers should all burn in hell. Fail.
Soredemo Ayumu wa Yosetekuru: This first episode was hilarious, creating a lot of parallels between shogi and romance that you normally never would have thought of. The main hero and heroine are likable characters you instantly want to cheer for. My only concern is that the joke will get old if dragged out for 12 whole episodes. It doesn't feel like this series can really go anywhere. But for a first episode it's fine. Pass.
Shine Post: This series is eerie in that I can't tell when it's cg and when it's hand-drawn. Everything looks so good that most of the time I assume it's hand-drawn but that may not be the case. It could well be a full-cg series that has crossed the boundary line of recognizability. In any event I'm always welcome to cute girls dancing and singing for me regardless of the plotline that got me there. Pass.
That concludes the new summer season. All in all we have 18 worthy spectacles, in this order of quality week to week:
