With Shenmue ending, the spring anime season has crystallized into this shape:
Here's the good anime that's currently airing this season and is worth at least a try, in the order of how exciting each episode is week to week (not in the order of how good the series is overall, which would favor older/longer series too much):
1. Spy x Family
2. Honzuki no Gekokujo S3
3. Cue!
4. Love Live! Nijigasaki S2
5. Shoukei Shoujo
6. Delicious Party Precure
7. Tate no Yuusha S2
8. Healer Girl
9. Kaginado
10. Dragon Quest: Dai no Daibouken Remake
11. Kakkou no Iinazuke
12. Summertime Rendering
13. Otome Game Sekai wa Mob ni Kibishii Sekai desu
Now that we know what spring looks like, we can look forward to summer, which is so far and away superior to spring it's hard to believe the two can come from the same place:
Continuing Good Series:
One Pace
Dragon Quest: Dai no Daibouken Remake
Delicious Party Precure
Dragon Ball Super Heroes
Summertime Rendering
Kakkou no Iinazuke
Returning Good Series:
Love Live! Superstar
DanMachi
Hataraku Maou-sama!
Made in Abyss
Shadows House
Utawarerumono
Prince of Tennis
Tokyo Mewmew
Bastard!!
Guaranteed Good Debuting Series:
Isekai Meikyuu de Harem wo
Extreme Hearts
Prima Doll
Luminous Witches
Worth checking out debuting series:
Lycoris Recoil
Shine Post
Tensei Kenja no Isekai Life
Mamahaha no Tsurego
Kuro no Shoukanshi
Engage Kiss
25 series! And 19 of them are guaranteed worth watching! It's insane. It's heaven on Earth. It's jubilee day. It's the best season of anime in a long time, a long time, as Ben Kenobi would say.
The fall 2022 anime season is actually competitive with this summer's, which is just as crazy. It features more Utawarerumono, Bleach, The Eminence in Shadow, Ken Tensei, Bastard!!, Yama no Susume, and Boku no Hero Academia. But that's still a ways away. For now we can simply pray for the swift arrival of July.
